Hello,
I have never owned a Spyderco Q variant and would like to learn where i could possibly purchase one and learn more about them.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi xVoris. Welcome to the frustrating world of the Q knife. I too am always on the hunt for variants. I have some though want more. I've even taken the time to personally email each company that I could still find that had Q's done for them. This did get me one or two. The best place to find them is probably on Ebay. Prior to my collecting them I saw many I now wish I purchased. As to information just do a "Spyderco Q knife" search online and many of the private sites listed by others will show up. Spyderco also printed a history book about their knives and information is there too. Blade magazine (Q was 1996 knife of the year) also had a bit of information in one of their issues many years back. You can also find information on approximate numbers of each one made through many sites.

Enjoy the hunt and let me know if you want more information. Others listed above are a better source though I will try to help. Dan

There are lots of them. Some are very common, some quite rare. I own a number of them and have photographed them. Chris (Boxer) has put together a much more comprehensive list. Truthfully, I'm not sure if anyone, Sal included, has a list of every variant produced. The Spyderco "Bug" logo version is them most common, and probably should be the starting point of any Q collection. The American Flag version is also fairly common, although less so than the "Bug", and quite attractive. I won't get into prices, they're too volatile. I've seen a "Bug" Q's on eBay selling for $50 one week, for $150 the next, and for $75 the week after that. They are, in some ways, the Spyderco version of Beanie Babies. ;) :D

Hi xVoris,

There are also a few "samples" floating around. They were made but never went into production. Mercedes, Ferrari, Lotus, Coors, etc.

Ok thanks for all the info everyone! Im extremely interested in purchasing one now! Time to save up! lol

The Q was my very first Spyderco and still holds a special place in my heart. After a few years of use, my Q vanished (likely due to a pickpocket on a crowded bus) and by the time I got around to replacing it, they were no longer available for $25 on eBay. Luckily, I managed to snag a NIB serrated Q (just like my original) for a very reasonable price this past year. Like The Deacon said, prices are very volatile. It took lots of following the high priced ones before I managed to catch one on the low end. Good luck with your quest!
