Spyderco question

Hello folks. I received my first Spyderco second the other day and I noticed that there was no markings on the blade. I have several Kershaw seconds that are all marked with the XXXX on the blades. So how does Spyderco know said knife is a second and not covered under the lifetime warranty? Or is there a hidden mark that they know about ? I'm sure this had been talked about here before, but I'm a newbie and was just curious. Thanks for all the replies in advance !!

I have 2 seconds and they both have a notch in the spine of the blade. It’s very small and near the hole. I’m not sure but sure but I think this is the marking. I might be able to grab a picture tomorrow.

I saw a couple seconds recently, and that small notch was on the clip side of the spine right by the jimping. Small and easy to miss it you're not looking for it.

It was on the clip side on mine, just like you said

They are a fully functional knife for roughly half price.

had to research what seconds were.. i swear though.. i’ve had some pretty jacked up knives straight from spyderco factory that should have been declared seconds lol.

Yeah I've had para's that are nice and loose that fly open and shut, and others that are as tight as a hens butt lol. There's definitely a broad tolerance range they go by

my para 2 blurple had the most uneven grind, you didn’t even have to “inspect” it.. it looked like a damn corkscrew at the tip lol

All my knives become 'seconds' after I've used them a bit. As long as they function, a tiny flaw doesn't really matter to me. FWIW, all the Spydercos I've bought have been a close to flawless as anyone could ask: PM2, GB2, Native 5s (3), PM2.

Good to know that is the marking. I thought it was but was never sure.

I just checked the one that I have and it has the same marking - never would have thought that, I assumed that was the reason it was sold as a second. otherwise, my Native 5 seems like it should be a first
