Hey all - I'm new here - this is my first post.

My first Spyderco arrived in the mail today (plain edge Titanium Salsa) and I have a couple questions for all you knowledgable Spyderco fans. First, I got this knife on ebay for $49, was this a good deal? It seems like it to me, the "fit and finish" are very nice. Second, on the blade the number "014" is etched, does this mean something important? Number 014 out of how many? If this is a semi-collectable product I may choose not to use and abuse it. Finally, I am not a big fan of the wire clip, is there any other option for this knife besides going clipless?

I think Spyderco's are something I have missed out on previously (I have bought plenty of Benchmades, Cases, Camillus', and even microtechs) but will definetly be taking a closer look for another Spyderco for my next purchase. Thanks in advance for your help with my questions above! :D

Hi Dennis,

I'm a relative novice on Spydies as well so I don't have your answers ready; so I'll just stick to welcoming you!

I bought my first two Spydies within one month. They're addictive. :D

Although the Ti Salsa is still available, 50 bucks is pretty good-I' buy it at that price. The wire clip is the only option. Also, the number means that it was #14 in the production run-they nomber a bunch, but stop numbering around 600, I think.
welcome--Joe

I had a grey aluminum salsa and liked it, never handled the Ti, looks nice though.

Anyway, welcome to Spyderco? I love them. Great innovation, style, materials, variety, and edge grinds! They are my favorite production knives. I'd recommend quite a few of them, but I especially like the Military, Dodo, Kiwi, and the ATR is cool, but I prefer my large Sebenza to it. There are a few on the way that we're all excited about, especially the Paramilitary.
I have a black plain edge Dodo for sale if you're interested in trying one. It's a sweet little knife.

Welcome to the dark side(evil laughter)... ahem... I mean, Welcome to the forums. May as well surrender your credit card to whichever dealer you plan on buying from, save typing it all in every week.

The Ti-Salsa has a factory msrp of 150usd... still gonna be looking at the 100usd mark online. Nice grab. The #014 is #14 of the production, numbering usually ends up around 500 for collector(spyderco collector program) models. I have a numbered knife in my collection, and it'll get rotated, don't have any safe queens.

As to carry options... check out eric "normark" (noeldechen)http://www.mnsi.net/~nbtnoel/ and "uncle" mike sastre http://www.rivercitysheaths.com/ for neck rigs. I carry a stainless plain edge dragonfly 24/7 on my neck. Really comfy. I've had 3 aluminum salsas before... had a normark rig on one. All have gone in trades, might pick another one up along the road.
