Okay so I have myself a bit of an issue. I just got a Spyderco "R" Nishijin. It's a beautiful knife, feels great in my hand, and is crazy sharp. I've used it to cut two pieces of paracord and arm hair. Part of me wants to hold onto it because it's a great knife. I'm just not sure it will get carried and used, it's one of those knives you really like but just don't for sure see it going beyond your knife drawer and being held and loved lol.

So here's the dilemma, I have a shot at a Para2 for the "R". I got rid of my Para2 a log time ago and have kicked myself ever since for it. I know for a fact I will carry, use, and love the Para2.

My birthday is coming up in October so if I don't trade, I could wait til then and buy one with birthday money.

I'm in the situation where I'm sitting here thinking over and over about it. Can I wait for the Para2, do I want it right now, should I really let the "R" go?

So I thought I would come and ask for opinions. What do you guys think I should do?

I support your decision. The "R" Nishijin is a sprint run knife; the Para2 is a regular production knife. Unless you can get a one of the sprint run/exclusive Para2's, I'd prefer the Nishijin over a regular Para2.

I think I'm going to try and pick up a Para2. Possibly tomorrow at the knife shop if they have them in stock. I just really like the "R". Even if I don't carry it(I try to keep my collection to users only), it's a great knife and I really do like it. I think I'm going to give it a test run tomorrow. =]

It is a little heavier but I don't really see it as "Too Heavy", then again I'm used to carrying a ZT 0560 around. The "R" however, has this beautiful solid feel to it and the lock is strong and perfect. It's a great knife. I think the weight makes it feel more substantial and solid. =]

At 4.3 ounces, the "R" Nishijin is only 0.7 ounces heavier than an FRN Endura (3.6), and 0.2 ounces lighter than the more comparable G10 Endura (4.5).

It definitely feels more solid than the FRN version of the Endura, and from what I remember of the G10 version I believe it is more solid as well.

For me it's the lockback knife I've been looking for from Spyderco--right in between the Delica and Endura in size. The Nishijin scales can be a little slippery, but I love how they look and it makes the knife much less aggressive than it could be otherwise.

Love the look of the Nishijin, but didn't like the lack of traction on the handles. If the scales were carbon fiber like the Gayle Bradley, I would have kicked down the local knife shop's door to get one.

What was the grail? If it was a S90V Para2, I'd definitely say it's a step up from the Nishijin. I've never handled a Nishijin, but the compression lock plus the flick-ability of the PM2 makes it an amazing knife.
