There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of excitement over this knife. I, for one, really like it. I just ordered one earlier today. Hopefully it gets shipped tomorrow so I can get it by Monday!

Anybody else really looking forward to it getting one?

I'm sort of on the fence right now myself. I'm not sure how I feel about glass fiber to be honest, although I'm tempted to give it a try. Be sure to let us know how you like it.

I will. I've recently had my interest piqued for doing reviews so I'll definitely put one together after I've had a chance to carry it for at least a week.

Looks too similar to a caly3.5 to me. Am I missing anything??

Interested to see these glass fiber handles in some nice pics/vids as I am really looking forward to the Air, though.

I'm not really seeing the caly. It looks alot like a spruced up delica to me. Very classy looking. I think all of the ruckus over the air has left this one in the shadows which is a shame because it really is a beautiful knife. I would def. pick one of these up but funds are tight so i will do the next best thing, watch tons of reviews!

It is somewhat similar. I think it's closer to an Endura/Delica though.

Compared to a Caly 3.5 it has screw construction, four way tip up/tip down carry, a wider handle, and a longer blade. It is about 1.2 ounces heavier.

Definitely. I think it's a great size--right in between a Delica and an Endura. With how popular the G-10 Delica/Endura's are, I'm surprised that the R Nishijin isn't getting more love.

I have one & I'm impressed. I've found that I really like these Japan-made lockbacks with full steel frames. I love that tight, well made feel & the authoritative snap the lock makes. It feels like my Police 3 & Endura G10. Its a real in-between design, like the Endura G10 & Para 2 had a child, with really pretty scales thrown in.

I got mine in yesterday. Its kind of like a stretch sized delica. It's a really nice knife IMO.

I just got mine today and I can say it's very impressive. I have a Caly 3.5 and it's definitely much beefier and heavier. I'm not afraid to use it hard. As usual great fit and finish. The picture is with a Caly 3.5 and a Salt 1 for comparison.

Just opened mine up 10 mins ago super excited about it. easily the sharpest spyderco out of the box ive received yet. The blade on this knife seems a little longer then the caly 3.5 super blue i have. for some reason my caly 3.5 super blue isnt 3.5" anyone else noticed that?
back to the R its much heaver in a good way the pictures ive seen online doesnt do it any justice, so far only problem is that its gritty out of box like my caly 3 and 3.5

I'm just not seeing the caly at all in the "R". Maybe the choil but that's about it. I expect you guys to do in depth reviews with lots o' pics when you get yours to keep me sane:)

I really like the looks of the knife, but it's very similar to a PM2 in overall and closed length. looks like they managed to pack a bit more edge length in though.

I think it's an excellent knife for someone who wants a PM2, but can't handle the compression lock. Or even for someone who wants a larger delica with a choil, I'm sure there's people who have been asking for a knife like that.

If you're interested, snap one up, it's a sprint!

Reminds me of a longer Delica with a choil. I wouldn't mind getting one, but there are other knives I would rather get first. It is also kinda heavy for the size compared to the Delica(and lightness is probably my favorite thing about the Delica).

Here are a few shots of it. First with a Stretch and Caly 3.5 for size/shape comparison....

A couple by itself...

And one with Spyderco's other new glass fiber scaled model, the Centofante Memory...

Where did that Centofante Memory come from? I really want to get one of those.
UPS left it on my doorstep a couple days ago. No paperwork, but the return address on the box was 820 Spyderco Way, so I have a pretty good idea who sent it. ;) :) Have a hunch someone there carried it for a while because the anodizing shows some signs of wear. Posted some photos of it in this thread on the Spyderco Factory Forum.

Thank you for the link Paul. This is the Spyderco knife on the top of my list for this year. :)
