Let me first say that my passion for collecting knives started about a few years ago. I've been a big Benchmade fan, loving all aspects of their knives. On the other hand, Spyderco's "Hump and Hole" design just didn't turn me on. I know it has always been popular among the law enforcement agencies, rescue personnel, and outdoorsmen, but I felt their knives were practical but ugly. However, about two months ago, I decided to pick up the Spyderco's Para-Military (friend's recommendation), and my perspective took a 180 degree turn. I love the G-10 handle, CPM-S30V blade, and compression lock. I started reading Spyderco's forum, and going through their catalog religiously. I even ordered the "Spyderco Story" book, which I am eager waiting for. In the two months period, I picked up the following Spydies:

(1) Para-Military
(2) Centofante III
(3) D'Allara Drop Point
(4) Ocelot
(5) Delica Plain
(6) Delica Combo
(7) Delica Serrated
(8) Delica Stainless Steel
(9) Salt I Plain
(10) Byrd's Line: Meadowlark G10
(11) Byrd's Line: Crow

I picked up 11 knives in two months. I think I could be legally classified as a Spyderco addict.

No addiction but rather an indication of a starting Spyderco collector  (out of production Spydies where are you?:D )

Which one is your favorite?

Nah, that's not bad at all.:p

Welcome to the addiction.

I wanted to pick up the Starmate ... saw it on ebay, bid on it and in the last second, someone outbid me by $2.50. The final price was $162.50. I also wanted to pick up the Bob Lum Tanto folder, but couldn't find it.

It's hard to say which one is my favorite. That's like asking your mom who's her favorite kid. I like them all, for difference reasons.

You can be classified as an addict, but it's an average case. When I first got turned onto Spyderco I was averaging 5 Spydies a week. Within a year I had 189 Spyderco knives.

Welcome to the club. :)

wow, pj, that's alot of spydies you have there.

i was thinking more along the line of 1 or 2 a month. how do you store them? I emptied two of my dresser drawers and put my knives that i don't use in there.

i keep all of my knives (regardless of brand) in a 5 draw chest of draws which is full . the spydercos i now own are :
catcherman
ss endura 4 fully serrated
ss combo edge native
ss combo edge police
ss combo edge byrd flight
sss fully serrated harpy
bill moran fb01 fixed blade
fully serrated salt pacific
calypso junior lightweight fully serrated
centofante 4

I had a green handled delica with black teflon blade in Iraq, it got lost in a humvee one day, I own a bunch of fancier knives, but I was so busted up over losing my first spyderco that I ordered two more delicas with black blades and black handles (alas, no more green). Before they came in the mail I saw my buddy using a very familiar knife to strip some wires to hook up an AC unit, my spyderco. I can't believe he gave it back to me. So now I have two black bladed delicas, gave one of the extra black handled jobbies to a friend. Bought the girlfriend a blue handled Yojimbo, and an enduro for my buddy.

Just got into collecting Spyderco's myself and they are Very addictive.I only have 6 so far but fixing to add a few more to my collection.I'm glad this forum is here so i can converse with fellow Spyderco collector's.Great forum you have here:cool:

My friend got me a CRKT Walker knife for x-mas and it was alright- started my interst in knives... but once i picked up a delica i was hooked.
Now have the Endura 4, older PE military, mini-manix and 2 g-10 cara cara's, a black raven & a sharpmaker on the way...

That is just plain sick! I'm jealous though.

I am looking to pick up my first Spyderco very soon, and I am leaning towards the Endura. Some other ones that I am looking at are the Manix, Delica, Endura Wave, and D'Allara Drop Point.

189 knives, goodness...

I only have three Spydercos, but I'm getting addicted to Crickets. Right now I only have one, but I'm planning to put some sort of exotic wood on the non-lock side scale... and then I want to put G-10 on one... Micarta would be nice.

The SS models are great platforms for modifications, and the Cricket is a beautiful knife that cuts like a knife twice as big.

Thats a great start. You need a Native and a Military to round that collection out for a while.

I currently only have the following

Spyderco Military black blade CE, Spyderco Native III PE and a Spyderco Endura 3 FRN PE, oh yeah, a Pacific Salt SE with yellow FRN too.

I've owned the following, all PE unless noted
Native 440V, Native S30V, Military ATS55 CE, Native III SE, Spyderco Endura 3 FRN PE (different than one above), Spyderco Delica 3 FRN SE, Spyderco Delica FRN AUS 8, Spyderco Endura 4 FRN, Spyderco Ladybug CE, Spyderco Jester, Spyderco Spyderfly VG10, Spyderco Meerkat, Spyderco Dragonfly, Spyderco Manix, Spyderco Salt I and I think thats about it. I am looking for a Police with G10 handles (discontinued), and thinking about getting a Spot(discontinued also), a Salt 1 with SE and yellow handles, and an Atlantic Salt for a friend of mine. All models were great users, I just traded for new models, should of kept them all I guess.

But, at a cost of only about 40 bucks, for a knife with S30V blades, go for the Native. It's a great knife. If you pick it up at Walmart, I've noticed that a lot of them are loose in the handle, check before you buy, and if you can't find one with nice lockup, just buy the best one of the bunch, and send it in to Colorado, Spyderco will take care of you. As for the Military, IMHO, the Endura and Delica might be the flagship models, but the Military is the best model Spyderco is making right now. Mine has gotten a real beating, haven't had to send it in, haven't had to do anything to it, not even sharpen it. One of my favorite knives, and that is staying with me until I go in the ground.
