I bought one yesterday for $38.00. I know they're out of production, so I wasn't able to compare prices. I'm just wondering if this was the good deal that I thought it was.

BTW, I've been a member for a few months, but I've just been trolling for quite a while.

Fantastic price. About a year ago CDNN Investments got ahold of some combo edge Renegades that were made from old parts laying around the Golden plant. They were selling them for around fifty bucks IIRC. Don't know if yours is an original or a "frankenstein" CDNN re-run, but you got a great price either way. :)

$38 for a Renegade is a great price. You'll pay more than that for an FRN Native.

Well, if it helps, I bought it NIB from a retail store. There's a sticker on the box dating 3/14/02, which would fall within the production period wouldn't it?

As recently as last year, there was an ongoing thread at the Spyderco forum where it was discovered that the original Renegades were slated for a liner lock mechanism. For what ever reason, it didn' t happen. And Spyderco went to a lockback. And Sal G. himself indicated that there was a good supply of the G- 10 scales and blades from unassembled Renegades sitting somewhere in the warehouse. The idea was tossed around that a "new model" linerlock would be built from these parts. That never happened either. :(
