spyderco rescue knives

I have a bunch of Rescues, the one I use is an older C14 PE in ATS-55. Find it cuts very well, sharpens easily, although it takes a bit longer to get ATS-55 sharp than VG-10.

My plain-edge Rescue 93mm (with VG-10) slices better than any other knife that I own, bar none.

My plain-edge Atlantic Salt (with H-1) slices very nice also, but I can't seem to get quite as keen of an edge as I can with the VG-10.

Both are a real breeze to sharpen due to the long straight edge.
There are no severe curves or funky angles to stress over.
I loved my old Chinook II, but I did have a bit of trouble making a smooth and consistant transition from the upswept point to the main body of the blade.

I also really like the large thumbhole found on the Rescue models (and Salt models too).
They work great even with gloves on.

I will say that the choil on the Atlantic Salt is superior to the choil on the Rescues.

Many years ago, when I mostly carried a stockman pocket-knife, I found myself using the sheepsfoot blade for about 95% of my cutting.
And now I EDC either the Rescue 93mm or the Atlantic Salt and I hardly ever miss a pointy tip.

Good luck,
Allen.

Is anyone still selling the 93mm Rescue with the Finger Placement cut-out on the Blade?

How many times have you sharpened it so far? I found H1 to be the easiest to sharpen to an extremely fine edge of any Spyderco steel, but it also had one of the worst problems with the factory edge not touching up well. I forget how many times I sharpened mine before it changed, but it definitely improved.

Also note that H1 has a finer grain. Depending on how you feel an edge for sharpness, a really smooth edge can feel like it isn't as sharp as an edge with "bite," until it cuts your finger clean off. :)

More often than not, my only EDC knife is the blue Rescue79 mm (my sheepfoot Delica) It opens my mail just as easily as any of my pointy knives.
It even sharpens a pencil to a very nice point too.

It's just amazing how useful a serrated sheepfoot blade is for everyday tasks;) .

Of all my serrated knives(about 98% of my collection) this knife is the easiest to sharpen. I can clean cut a piece of cigarette paper with either of the serrations. :D

If you like the sheepsfoot serrated blade of the Rescue model, you should check out the D'Allara. That is one rock solid rescue knife!

halfneck,
last time I checked John F Jensen had a few of the orange 93mm with the "finger Placement" blade. I was considering getting one before they are all gone.
Chris

I have a couple of 93mm fully serrated "Rescues" and find them extremely usefull. They have tons of cutting edge with that long flat blade. They are not heavy knives either. Because they have a large cutting edge I don't think they have to be resharped as much as some of my smaller knives. I use the Sharpmaker at 40 degrees on both edges and they sharpen fairly quickly. I like their larger handle also.

hey guys, just another newbie here..... with another dumb assed question

i've been thinkinking about replaceing me trusty old 70 mm sheeps foot (un-disclosed brand , shelham maby?... dunno.... ) and was looking at eather atlantic salt, rescue 93mmm or rescue 79 mm .... non serated (for about 180 bux they come in at about the the same price - Australia sometimes sux ;) )

i'm a boilermaker, so general duties range from opening boxes of welding electrodes (cardboard & plastic , maby a little corosive? ) to cutting up a apple for smoko , still a little bit scared about the FRN and welding spatter - a pouch should take care of that i suppose..... i'm not big on going in the salt water so its not real a issue and still learning to stick a desent edge me blades

......... any way so i'm gunna open up the proverbial can of worms and ask for any of your thoughts

I have one and it's a great knife (I'm waiting for my DP D'Allara/CE)

I find the Rescue 79 mm easier to carry though.
