I am looking for some opinions as to which knife offers greater quality and effectiveness.

Which one has more effective serrations with respect to seatbelt material and clothing?

Which one is handier, more ergonomic?

Which one has greater lock strength?

Thanks in advance.

I am only partially qualified to answer the serration question, so that is where my post will start and end. The Spydie's serrations will definitely be easier to sharpen, but I think Cold Steel's serrations are the more aggressive cutter. There's something about those little teeth that chew up anything!! the only trouble is sharpening the damn things

I recently heard a tip though. Charge a buffing wheel with compound and buff the sharpness back!!

The Cold Steel is by far the better cutter. But, like stated above you will find it impossible to ever restore this edge once it becomes dull (this will take quite some time though). It's only other drawback is, It is kind of big.

In the long run I think the spyderco will treat you better.

If you are partial to the looks of the Cold Steel, then get it. It is still a good knife and It will not let you down.

The spyderco is easier to open. The spring is weaker and the thumb hole is easier to find. The old style spyderco Rescue was on sale at SMKC in the specials section of their crappy site. I don't know if the CS rescue is even priced close to 24.99. I would get the spyderco.

When I'm riding on the "box", I carry the Cold Steel although I have both knives. The Cold Steel has way better lock strength and ergonomics when it comes to my hands. This may be different for the next guy. As far as cutting materials, nothing beats the good ol' EMS/trauma shear. All my knife gets is pocket time. I use the scissors on all of my cutting needs. They usually run about $3 each and can cut much quicker. I've cut off pants in MVAs with lightning speed. There's no time to gently hack away at the material. If you are in the EMS field, you know that time is of the essence.

With all due respect, screw the CS rescue.
Just get the fully serrated tanto. You even get to pick which size you like. And as far as ease of opening, I think Spyderco's round hole is overrated, I've never had a problem with my CS opening. And you get an extra strait blade out of the deal too.
Personally I carry the large clip point voyager, I've found that the XL spring is just too difficult to open with any speed. I only sharpen the big serrations, and I haven't had any problems with it in the whole year I've used it. I think too many people get caught up in trying to sharpen the little ones. You really don't need to worry about them.
