So i've been looking at picking up a knife bag, cause i may be moving into a new apartment and wanted something other than wrapping my knives in clothes. I saw the small spyderpac online, but the spyderco site doesn't have the dimensions for the bag, just the pockets. I called them up today and felt rather put off

1st attpemt:
Me: *phone ringing*
S Rep: Thank you for calling spyderco how may i help you
Me: hi, i have a question about your spyderpac bag
S Rep: hello? *hangs up right away*
(less than 10sec of us talking)

2nd ateempt:
S Rep: Thank you for calling spyderco how may i help you
Me: Hi, can you hear me?
S Rep: yes
Me: great, i just called a moment ago, but got hung up on
S Rep: Well, i didn't hear anyone
~awkward~

My question was answered, but after his abrasiveness i felt more inclined to order online, rather than putting an order with him. I'm new to spyderco, and have picked up a few knives now, but i've never had a rep reply like that to me. First experience not so great.

I've talked to people with SOG and CRK, and they've all been really pleasant with any of my questions or concerns. This doesn't affect my feelings towards spyderco, but i feel like i would now rather ask questions on the forum, rather than trying to call them again.

Anyone have odd experiences with reps?

sounds like a small thing being blown out of proportion..... just saying. then again i didnt hear the attitude, and im willing to bet the rep didnt mean for it to come across that way

yeah, i know it's a small thing, but after dealing with CRK recently, and coming from Plaza Cutlery(knife shop in town) where everyone was extremely helpful and polite, the tone with how the rep retorted, he sounded like i was attacking him or something. Just a little odd. Like i said, i'm not downing spyderco, cause i love the knives i have so far.

I work in customer service myself, so i just wish other customer service types would keep their professionalism. I know people have their off days, i just happened to maybe have been on his.

i couldnt agree more with this statement... i also work in customer service.

I've been dealing with the people in the Factory outlet for years now and I've never found them to be anything but nice, polite, very professional while coming across as like able at the same time.

It's strange that he would be abrasive for no reason whatsoever. I'm really having a difficult time seeing it. If it bothers you call him up and talk to him. If you don't feel satidfied at that point then next go to his supervisor.

Sometimes it seems that since we became so intertwined with the internet common problem solving methods have been forgotten, or never learned by the younger generation.

Now, It's get on the forum and tell the world before attempting to resolve the issue with the person in a private, non confrontational manner.

"Each pocket is 4-1/2" X 2-1/2" (114mm X 63.5mm)"

If you click on the picture it blows it up to show you an inside look at the pack. Knowing the size of each pocket, it is not hard to come up with a relative idea of how large the pack is.

Anyways, it sounds like you took something personally which you really shouldn't have. It sounds like there was some phone trouble. He didn't hear anyone so he hung up. It happens. I almost thought this was a joke the first time I read it.

The large Spyderpac is very well made, holds a lot of knives and is thoroughly impressive. I have one of the large packs and I store my Military's, Enduras, Delicas, and some other smaller Spydercos in there.
The carry strap is solid, the stitching is perfectly done, no frayed areas after a full 14 months of use. Folds away very small, can be stored under a bed, hung in a closet, etc.

My experiences with the reps have been very good. I received a call from Charlynn regarding a knife I sent in that had some odd looking serrations a year ago. She called me and was really friendly, and answered all my questions. Cannot ask for a better experience really. Don't take little things personally, phone problems happen. It doesn't sound like it was intentional.

This is what I was thinking. I'm not blaming or accusing the OP for anything at all, but this does remind me of another very common scenario.
"I emailed X company and they never bothered to reply, they have horrible customer service!". Seriously, there are so many threads like that popping up in the forums that it get's ridiculous. The reasoning for this illogical behavior is followed up by "I like to have a papertrail for my communications with everyone." Really? You're buying a $30 item and you feel the need to file and store a written record of that? Hmm, too much time on your hands. ;)

Hi,

Sorry for your experience. It certainly doesn't sound typical. I would suggest you try again.

I would think just a bad phone connection, nothing more.

Please don't hesitate calling again. They have always been very kind, and resolved any problems I have had. Your right about the folks at CRK, but the people at Spyderco are also very nice to talk to.

Definitely not typical. Have yet to have a bad experience with either SFO or Spyderco CS. On the other hand, I've been at both ends of phone calls where one party could not hear the other.

However, given that most Spyderco dealers sell the SpyderPacs for less than SFO charges, perhaps you should thank whoever you feel insulted you when you called them.

Aside from the politeness issue, you'll get significantly lower prices by buying from an authorized dealer rather than direct from Spyderco. Spyderco sells at MSRP because they don't want to compete with their dealers. Most of the dealers charge from 25% to 46% below MSRP so you can save quite a bit of money if you can find the item at a good online dealer.

Revdevil- thanks for the review with your personal experience with the bag. I had been looking for quite a few weeks, trying to find a bag, and since i couldn't find any reviews or anything, just went ahead with spyderco because i know it's a good company.

Like i've been saying before, i'm not offended by this, so there is no issue to resolve, hence why i didn't write the persons name. Just a little put-off by the tone/response. And this is in no way a bash at spyderco as a whole. Being that this is a web forum, and my first time dealing with a spyderco rep, i was curious to see whether anyone else had encountered the same thing. Judging by everyones comments, he was probably just having an off day.

On a side note, is there anywhere in particular to shop for spyderco stuff online? When searching for the small bag, i only came across amazon which only had the large bag, and the spyderco website. I couldn't find the bag anywhere else.

No problem, I should do a review of the pack at some point. The large Spyderpac is probably the best knife storage device for nontraditional folders I've seen. I managed to fit 3 ladybug knives in the pockets. The clear windows have not yellowed or dried out. They are still soft and flexible. You can see what exactly is in the slot without having to pull everything out. Here are some pictures that might help you determine what it looks like, what it can hold, and the general construction. It really is the best knife storage device for the price and is probably under priced if anything. Hope this helps sway you.

Bottom row is all Military knives, the next is all Enduras, the next up is Paras, Sage, and Natives.

Nice golden thread embroidery. Has not unravelled at all.

Lots of hook and loop (Velcro) ensures a solid closure everytime

Solidly constructed buckles and D rings,

Thanks for the pics and review RevDevil:thumbup:

I'll need to pick one of those up.

Thank you gents. I just wanted to make sure the OP had a chance to see some of the features that the SpyderPac has to offer. I was very impressed with the quality, it's a great bag.
