I was looking into getting another spyderco, but I'm looking for something a little smaller than my dragonfly2. I wa looking at the cricket, but I'm not sure about the blade on it. It seems to be more destined for self defense? How to you guys feel about it as a EDC?

I have always been intrigued by the cricket, but would hate to sharpen that blade, I dont think it would make a very good EDC for me as you really can't cut anything flush like a steak on a plate, but I'm sure it would do well for opening packages and cutting rope.

I've never been a fan of those recurve-style blades and the Cricket is an extreme recurve. I'm also not fond of the overall shape, seems more a design in form over function but I could be wrong. For a Spydie smaller than the Dfly I'd highly recommend the Ladybug or Manbug. I haven't tried the Manbug yet but have several Ladybugs and they're honestly my most used knives. With a small Stainless Steel Berkeley Point clip on it I get an extra finger grip on mine and they're quite secure in hand.

Here's a quick and dirty older pic I took but you can see the size comparison between the Dfly and Ladybugs. I've also got a grey Lbug which is my main user (backup to bigger EDC blade - ZT0566). The wife and I use the Salt versions for travel and I don't use my first gen Lbug or the now discontinued Jester.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that there's maybe 1/4" difference in blade length between the Dfly and Ladybug and at least 1/2" difference between the handles. You get almost the same useable cutting edge in a much smaller package. Give one a try, they're awesome little knives.
