Just saw this sweet hunk o VG-10 I guess it was just released? I love Spyderco's different designs, my Yojimbo 2 is the bee's knees. Anyone picked one up?

I have one on the way. It should be a pretty neat EDC knife.

I just got mine today. And sold it today. It's a sweet knife, just not for me. I was not a fan of the "matte" finish, either.

Yeah a satin finish would have been so much more on point, always these fine details that make or totally destroy a purchase

I think the blade length is fine, its the poor handle ratio that kills it for me in regards to both technical design and looks.

that's what held me back from buying this knife.

What's weird is that I'm not aware of any Spyderco knife that has ever had a matte finish. I'm not sure whether it's bead blasted and then polished, or what, but it don't look good. I have no idea who chose it and why.

That's another concern of mine about the folder, aside from the relatively small cutting edge - the blade is so awkward! It seems like I would constantly get stuff caught in the HUGE choil under the blade. The blade needs to extend much closer to the handle and be about .25" longer before it really seems like it would be useful for much.

I mean, seriously, what would you ever use that for? It's like taping a razor blade to a long stick. Just to keep it from constantly jamming and getting caught, you'll only ever end up using the last 1/2 of the blade... Which gives you about 1.5" of cutting edge that ever sees use.

It just reminds me of the D'Holder Toad. Such awkward knives, destined to be rapidly discontinued.

+1 to that. After seeing pictures I thought to myself "man that's much bigger than I thought it would be"

I've had a knife of two with that finish and it looks like those cheap cast aluminum toys you can guy at Target. Really not a fan. From the pre-sale pictures, I thought it was going to be a nice stonewash finish. So glad I held off buying this knife - I came this close | | to pulling the trigger.

I agree on all points, I'm glad I posted about this, arggg it could have been sooo cool! Are there any other cleaver folder designs out there? I really want one!

I have to confess that I purchased this knife specifically because it's such a weird design (I generally enjoy those). I don't expect that I'll carry it TOO much, but it might be neat just to admire. I will say that Brancron, your pic was pretty eye-opening. That is a LOT of handle. Of course, I have big hands so it might work out fine. If not, well, it'll just go into the collection for occassional fondle time. Thanks for posting the pics. That blade finish to me is visually different, so I guess I'll have to get mine in hand before I cast a final judgement on it.

There are a couple but they're expensive. Trouble blades debt collector and kingdom armory bill the butcher.

I think the mini cleaver is far better suited to a pocket size fixed blade rather than a folder.

I agree. A good example is Suwannee River's Lime Cutter - it's a great mini cleaver pocket knife.

although Bonner Knives makes a nice friction folder mini cleaver.

Spyderco and Serge are good. However, Dr. Feffer would say their baby is "breathtaking".

Though I think I like it :D I would not buy the ROC without handling it first precisely because of all that you write ^.

Check out Rad Knives/ToxicFab Field Cleaver. Thing is a beast and it's a flipper too.

Agree with the lime cutters...pretty small though so try to get one of the XL's.
