Okay, So I've Been Looking At These Two Specific Models For A While And Have A Chance To Trade For Either One.

Anyways....

I'm Having An Issue Choosing Which To Get.

Spyderco Rock Lobster:
Larger Than The Sage 1 And Foliage Green G-10.
I Really Love G-10, And The Foliage Green Is A Great Color.
However I've Never Had A Carbon Fiber Knife.
Blade Shape Looks Really Great And Like It Could Be Used For Nearly Anything.
Doesn't Have A Piercing Tip So Wouldn't Really Make For Piercing Something.
VG-10 Blade Steel - This Is A Good Blade Steel.. But How Does It Hold Against s30v?

Spyderco Sage 1:
Smaller And More "Sheeple" Friendly.
Nice Carbon Fiber Scales.
s30v Blade Steel - Which We All Know Is Excellent.
Nice Wide Blade For A Large Cutting Surface.
Penetrative Tip.
And It Has That Awesome Wire Clip.

So Which Do You Think Would Be The Better Choice Of The Two?
They Are Two Widely Different Knives... But I've Never Heard Anything Bad About Either Of Them.

So Which Would You Chose?

What are you "likely" to do with it? You like to trade a lot so I would assume it's not the end-all knife you'll die with. The Lobster cost quite a bit more and will get harder to find long before the Sage 1. If the knife really appeals to you I'd say go for it. You can pick up a Sage 24/7 by trade or buy. Yes the carbon fiber/mystery base is sweet, yes the knife locks up like a vault, yes the knife has good ergos, yes S30V is good although mundane at this point and yes it has a wire clip but that isn't a plus for all of us.

With that being said, I would still choose a Sage over the RL only because I don't care for the funky design and I really like a sharp tip.

I never tried a rock lobster but I had a sage 1 and 2. The sages I owned had some of the best fit and finish I seen in that price range. Don't be fooled by the "made in Taiwan" stamp. The only down side that I found in the sage 1 was the carbon fiber. It had texture but it was stil pretty slick.

I Like A Sharp Tip Too. And The Wire Pocket Clips Are My Favorite Lol.
If My Para2 Had A Wire Pocket Clip, I'd Be In Heaven Lol.

And Actually, I'm Trying To Get Knives I'll Keep Forever. So I'm Trying To Trade For The One I'll Keep.

That Being Said.. I'm Not Sure Which One That Would Be.

I Also Do Have A Lot Of Bigger Knives....
Spyderco Resilience
Spyderco Para2 -x2
Spyderco Tenacious
Spyderco Manix 2
Adding A Spyderco Chokwe
Byrd Cara Cara

Smaller:
Spyderco Delica 4
Spyderco UKPK
Spyderco Persistence
Spyderco Grasshopper
Byrd Meadowlark 2
Byrd Tern

To Get Said Rock Lobster That Would:
- One Para2
- Delica 4

So The Rock Lobster Would Replace The Para2 As A Large Folder And Get Rid Of A Smaller Folder.

The Sage 1 Would:
- One Para 2

So, Not Really Sure What To Do.

This Being Said.. I Carry My Larger Knives More. And I Kind Of Want A Small EDC But Not Sure If It Would Get EDC'd With What I Have...

So I'm Confused.

I have both. The Rock Lobster is a bit of an oddity; certainly a niche knife. It takes a while to grow accustomed to the unusual ergonomics but afterwards I actually found it to be quite comfortable (I have read several reviews that claim the contrary, however.) The handle is wide, yet very thin, and the G-10 is very aggressive (great for wet/dry hands but it's hard on the pockets.) The blade has a gorgeous sweep which makes it a demon of a slicer--the Rock Lobster is superb in the kitchen. It's also one of those knives that seems a whole lot bigger once you have it in hand...

I think that either the Para 2 or Sage is a far better EDC knife. The Sage 1 is hard to beat: it carries comfortably and discreetly, smooth to deploy, and can be casual or dressy. Better all-round value with the Sage, imo. That said, the Rock Lobster is discontinued whereas the Sage is still in production, so if you want one, better jump on it while you can.

Good luck, OP! :)

Rocklobster is going to be a long term collector piece, the the Sage is a really nice EDC knife... If you are looking to add a nice piece to your growing collection go for the RL if your looking for a carry knife go for the more common Sage.
