I bought a spyderco ronin earlier this year. I recently noticed that the tip was bent. I got it right after a surgery so i cant say i checked for a bent tip so maybe it came to me like that or maybe the heat treatment is bad? I haven't used it for anything besides opening packages and cutting cardboard, not what the knife was designed for but it does a great job at it, anyway i've far from abused it. So i sent it in to spyderco stating this problem and a problem with the sheath not retaining. I just got the knife back and the tip is still bent! They did however replace the sheath which i am grateful for, but im dissapointed with the quality of spyderco craftsmanship. This was my first spyderco and everything i had heard was that their quality was amazing. The spydyhole was very rough at a portion and somewhat D shaped as well... i must have gotten a dud, i was just hoping spyderco would have taken care of it. I'll still keep the knife and use it but i dont think i will buy another spyderco.

They said nothing about it, i got a note that said they sharpened and cleaned the knife. I bought the knife on ebay, i know there are allot of counterfeit but idont think spyderco would even go as far as sharpeneing and replacing the sheath if that were the case. I could be wrong though

Well my thought is that if the knife has been somehow clearly modified in a significant way, say a regrind for example, that would void their warranty. The other thought is that maybe somehow it got overlooked. You might try calling them tomorrow to make sure that did not happen. If it was not overlooked, they can probably tell you why they didn't do anything with the tip as well. It may also be that they saw it and thought bending it back might break it or significantly weaken it. Give them a call. They're pretty friendly and patient in my experience.

I never heard of legit spydercos being so sloppy ESPECIALLY not ones from Taichung. Somethings not right here.

Sorry to hear of your problem Meshach. Posting a pic would be helpful. Not even Spyderco can replace a tip , the tip would need to be ground and blade re profiled . skyhorse rule #3 never buy a knife on eBay.;)

Unfortunately due to the fact that you have used the knife they have no way of knowing wether it arrived to you bent or if it bent during use. You even stated that you do not know if it arrived that way or not. If you bent it then it isn't covered. This is why it is important to inspect a knife closely upon receiving it. It makes addressing some issues easier for everybody.

I am sorry for your frustration and you can choose to avoid Spyderco if you choose but I feel as though that wil be your loss.

They have two makers in Taiwan. This knife was made in Tapai, not Taichung. When comparing the two Tapai is more of a budget maker compared to Taichung. Taipei makes the Cat and Chicago for example.

I actually got the knife after an intense surgery and was heavily medicated when i recieved it. I wasn't in a state of mind to inspect it at the time, i usually do so with all of the knives i receive. Due to the minimal amount of work i have put this knife through i feel that even if it bent while in my possession there would have to be a defect in the material. I will post pics a little later when i can.

I bent the tip of a ladybug once. Doing a flick of the wrist twisting cut and loaded it sideways.

Banged it flat on an anvil with a ball peen hammer, sharpened it back up and carried on.

Its slight and hard to see in pictures, but it definitely bends to the right.

I can see the bend. I also see the Spyder-hole, which is way off.

Have you called Spyderco to see what they say?

ETA: That spine also looks like it has been softened or rounded just a bit. The corners don't look as sharp and crisp as they should.

I havent called yet, i will later today. I should also mention that i bought the knife brand new and from an ebay seller with high volumes of sales and good ratings. Not to say it still couldnt be counterfeit but like i said i dont think spyderco would have done anything to it if they thought it was fake. I was just suprised that after sending it to them with these flaws it came back to me in this condition. I will update with what they have to say over the phone.
