Anyone familiar with the Mike Snody Ronin as featured in Tactical Knives magazine a couple of months ago? Well, at the Blade Show there was a prototype Ronin!

I was excited to see one as I had just purchased one of the "real" Ronin's from Mike only minutes before. Mike's Ronin is chisel ground, but the Spydie proto is V ground.

Sal, make these knives! I'll buy several and recommend them to my friends.

Please hurry. I can't wait. Besides, this way I can retire Mike's Ronin to the display case... It's too pretty anyway.:D

Anyone echo this statement?

Ed

Are there any pics of this proposed Spydie Ronin? Will it look just like the Snody Ronin? It sounds very interesting...

Hi Ed,

I'm eagerly awaiting Janich's Yojimbo (Ronin) folder.

Did you see any other interesting Spyderco protos at the show?

I would love to have had a picture, but, alas, no camera (stupid me). The proto I saw had the same profile as Mike's Ronin, but was V ground instead of Mike's chisel grind.

To see Mike's Ronin, you can go here: www.snodyknives.com/MS_Knives_Mvc-004f.htm

It's a great knife.

As far as the Janich Yojimbo folder, it would be great to see. I haven't heard about it till now.

Spyderco had a lot of prototypes out for display. The SPOT was there, with and without micarta handles. There was also a folding SPOT that Sal was unsure about producing (please do). An updated Rescue with thicker blade tip, when pressed into the handle, forced out a carbide window breaker. There was a sailor's knife with blade on one side and marlin spike on the other.

I think that there was almost a dozen prototypes out there. I was so overwhelmed with the rest of the show and the Ronin that it's tough to remember all the other things that were there. Maybe some other forumite will have more to say and possibly have pictures.

Hope this helped a little.

I'd seen Sal asking opinions about rigger's knives, and I hoped it'd get this far.

Any info available on this one? And what are the chances of it getting made?

C'mon, guys; I gots ropes that needs tyin! :D

I don't know if the sailor's knife is going further, but I remember it's in one of it's newer incarnations. It looks like a pretty good one for sure.

While disappointed that by the time I made it to Mike and Michelle Snody's table, there was not a knife left in sight= I did get to see this Snody Janich Ronin
and I am eagerly awaiting it's release! It is a killer knife with uniqueness and function out the wahoo!

I'm glad I got there firt thing on Friday to get mine. There were almost a dozen people there crowding the table as soon as the doors opened. I think I was lucky. I also managed to get a Strider GB folder. Awesome knives.

I'm also glas I got my Ronin on Friday, because I didn't see Mike on Saturday. I left around 11:00 or so to get back to Huntsville and get to work.

These will be great sellers!

Then there's the coolness factor! :D  :D

Saw the Ronin at an MBC I and II seminar a few months back. Janich called it a Ronin, anyway. It was a fixed blade, IIRC.

Who knows for sure what the Ronin/Yojimbo relationship is? Fixed/folder? Or something else?

Anyhows, I WANT ONE! :)

Karl

Hi Karl,

Ronin = fixed blade; Yojimbo = folding version of the Ronin. Still, Sal has said that the folder, if made, would probably be just called "folding Ronin", to avoid confusion.

Leo

But Yojimbo has a much bigger "flair" to it. Besides anyone familiar with knives and samurai movies will get the connection.

I'd personally rather it be called the Yojimbo.

Anyone else feel the same??

Ed

Will the sheath accept a mini tek-lock?

This is a must have knife for sure. A folding version would also be great.
