Looking to buy a Spyderco Sage 1 soon and wanted to know if anyone had any problems with it or something they really loved about it.

I'm in the Really Love it Category
No problems with mine! Locks up solid and it's a joy to carry.
If I were to recommend a $100 Spyderco to someone, I would recommend the Sage 1 over a Para 2 ( Although I love the Para 2 ;) )
Wire clip is great, scales grip okay and the knife just carries discreetly.

I chose the Sage 1 over the Sage 2 and it is fantastic. Definitely more classy looking than a Para 2. Highly recommend it

To me it's the perfect knife . I love mine and I own the 2 and the 3 and in my opinion it's the best of the three ill also take it over the PM2 .

I carry one when I am going somewhere with a 3 inch blade limit. I love my Caly 3.5 (this is my typical edc) but for some reason the Sage feels better than the Caly 3 does to me. I would also take any of the three Spydercos I mentioned over a PM2.

The sage 1 was the first $100 knife I ever bought and if I had to make the decision again I'd still go with the Sage 1, its a great knife, very capable while also serving well as a "gentleman's knife".

Do it

I like the sage 3 better but that's because its the spyderco equivalent of the mini-grip 555, my all time favorite knife.

The Sage 1 is on my short list, battling with a Cold Steel Recon 1 XL tanto for the top spot. [Totally different knives, I know].

Here's a good Youtube video from The Late Boy Scout to give you something to cogitate on:

As all others have said its a fantastic knife. Mine stays tight with no blade play and I didn't even use any Loctite on it. Grind is really even and it just is a really well finished knife all around. Great for the price.

I am considering this knife as my freezer knife (need to open many frozen boxes at work) instead of my sebenza.

A+, 10/10, Five Star knife.

It's a great knife. Seriously don't even think about it and get one.

Best all around value edc. STOP considering it and become an owner. This blade design is what I compare all other knives to. I have had Brouse, Curtiss F3, XM-18's, a greg lightfoot and this knife just stays in my pocket!

Spyderco SAGE 1 with CF/G10 laminated handles, S30V and liner lock is a great little knife but I personally prefer the Caly 3 with its narrower profile, pure CF handles, lock back and sharper/more edge retention of ZDP-189. Can't go wrong with either so it's good to have a near choice.

Without a doubt the best folder I have ever owned. The sound and feeling of this knife upon opening and closing is awesome. Its very solid and feels awesome in the hand. It takes and hold an edge easily. There is no other folder I would consider at the price point that would be better IMHO.

The Sage 1 is not particularly glamorous. It does not boast "hard use" lock strength that so many knife enthusiasts obsess over for unknown, strange reasons. It is not made in the United States.

But it is an outstanding, reliable, and incredibly ergonomic knife that is an amazing EDC. Great choice.

I actually prefer my Chaparral over the Sage and my Caly3.

I love them all, but prefer the Chap.

I've had one for a few years, and it is one heck of a knife. I have a large hand and prefer it over the Caly3, and also like it better than any knife with a 3" blade other than a small sebenza.
I usually buy USA only, but this one is just to good not to buy IMO.

One huge reason I carry it a lot around the house this time of year is that I often wear fleece pants when home and on the trails around my house. The wire clip and smooth CF/G10 slabs help it slide into the pocket with ease. I wish more knives had a wire clip with smooth scales.

It's just great, everything works. My #1 fave spyderco.
Great steel, solid lock, fine ergos, disappears in the pocket,
looks great too!
