Post your reviews of the Spyderco Sage 1 here.

A few things I'd like to hear about:

- Cost
- Versatility (Possible Uses)
- Fit & Finish (Build Quality)
- Color Options
- Handle Material Options
- Durability
- Alternatives

If possible, please post actual size photos or mention things of comparable size. Don't forget to mention any other information you may have.

Thanks!

color options and handle material options? the sage 1 only comes with black carbon fiber handles.

Cost should be around $100 or slightly lower, brand new. I think it's one of the best gentleman's EDC folder available. I say gentleman's folder since the material and fit and finish is above your average folder.

F&F is something I was pleasantly surprised with, being Taiwan made. I was VERY thorough looking it over upon delivery, trying to find faults with my first Taiwanese Spyderco. I think Sal made a very good choice in manufacturer here. Everything from this factory has been absolutely first rate.

There are no other choices other than CF scales and PE S30V blade. CF is very tough and this particular weave hides scratches very well, IF you're abusive enough to scratch it.

Full flat grind has relatively weaker tip than other grinds. But Spyderco's heat treat is spot on, no chipping and sharpens up well. Liner locks are not the strongest locking mechanism but again Spyderco makes very good liner locks. (Spyderco Military is a prime example)

Alternatives to the Sage 1? I think you can find plenty of knives with similar features but carbon fiber and this level of F&F will cost more, regardless of brand.

Oh and options would be Sage 2 (titanium handles) and if you wait Sage 3, but it's a question when that one will come out.
It's quite durable and it can handle most every day tasks that you put before it. For the price it's built like... well like sth that you wouldn't mind paying a few extra buck for. And what is a turn off to many - made in Taiwan, it shouldn't be. Not one thing wrong with it

I agree with all the above observations.

2 interesting alternatives, both cost a bit more:
- the Caly 3 with ultra-hard ZDP steel and CF handles. Very similar ergonomics but the Caly 3 is a bit thinner, and has a lockback. Choice? A matter of taste.
- an interesting outsider: the finnish Brisa Enzo Birk can be bought with flat ground s30V blade and carbon fibre handle. A very nice, practical folder of roughly similar size, but it obviously is ergonomically different. They also exist with scandi grind; which is rare on a folder. Picture:
