Hi guys. Well after about 2 years of carry and use my Spyderco Sage 1 ( CF ) has finally got enough lint and dirt built up that no matter how hard I try to flick it open it wont budge. It needs to be cleaned. Telcom powder leaked in my bag as well and has gotten in the joints and ya id like it to be super smooth again.

I have break free CLP that I use on my guns and I have used it in the past so I will be applying that after it has been cleaned.

Is this a difficult process? I have never taken apart a folder before. What do I need and how do I do it?

Thanks

Use a Torx bit, they're cheap at Home Depot, or even Wal-Mart. Just unscrew the pivot screw, pop out the blade, then take out the other screws and clean with soap and water as needed. Reapply lube when you put it back together. When I first started taking my knives apart to clean them regularly I laid everything out in the order I took it apart in. Gets even the most complicated knives back together without wondering what goes where. The Sage 1 is an easy, easy knife to take apart, clean, and put back together. Just go for it, man!:)

Torx size 8.
If I remember correctly, only one side of the pivot will unscrew; the other side is the semi-circular female end. In other words, if one side won't budge, try the other side.

Liner locks and frame locks are the two of the easiest to disassemble and reassemble. Just don't lose the screws. Good luck.

Save yourself some time and just take the blade out and leave the body screws in. Just blow it out or wash under running water.

Thanks to all who replied. I decided to try washing the knife first before I bought the torx set. What a great idea! I just took a toothbrush with hot soapy water and scrubbed it everywhere. Oiled it with the clp and now it deploys like a rocket again.

Thanks again!
