Hi guys. Well after about 2 years of carry and use my Spyderco Sage 1 ( CF ) has finally got enough lint and dirt built up that no matter how hard I try to flick it open it wont budge. It needs to be cleaned. Telcom powder leaked in my bag as well and has gotten in the joints and ya id like it to be super smooth again.

I have break free CLP that I use on my guns and I have used it in the past so I will be applying that after it has been cleaned.

Is this a difficult process? I have never taken apart a folder before. What do I need and how do I do it?

Thanks

Just wash it in hot soapy water then use canned air to blow out water and relube.

The Sage 1 is really easy to disassemble, just undue the screws and take it apart! Clean all the parts, then oil the washers before reassembling.

I would suggest taking it apart since its so easy. You only need to remove the screws on the front side & the scale & liner come right off giving you access to the pivot & washers. Just run under water maybe use a toothbrush & Dawn soap & re assemble with some fluorinated grease or your fav oil & put the liner, scale back on, put the screws back in, tighten down till the blade is centered but not too tight to where it won't flick out. If you have purple loc title a small drop on the pivot screw would be good. Blue loc title is also ok.

Taking it apart is the best and easiest option -- just remember that it voids the Spyderco warranty!

As I look at mine, I don't believe it needs to be taken apart. Everything that needs to be cleaned is accessible to running water. If any lint is still stuck, use a wooden toothpick or electric razor brush.

Why void your warranty?

I know some folks like to take thier knives apart, but don't encourage others that may mess something up and void thier warranty.

"Easy" is a very relative term. Stripping a laptop is "easy" -- for some folks.

Actually, if washing doesn't work, the "best and easiest" option is Spyderco CS. Ad it won't void the warranty.

As easy as it is to disassemble, I would not recommend it. It's just as easy and effective to soak it with some hot, soapy water. Work the blade back and forth under the water and rinse well. Blow out with compressed air and reapply your lube of choice.

Thanks to all who replied. I decided to try washing the knife first before I bought the torx set. What a great idea! I just took a toothbrush with hot soapy water and scrubbed it everywhere. Oiled it with the clp and now it deploys like a rocket again.

Thanks again!
