Hey guy's new member to the fourm, but have been on and a reading for a couple of months.

I have Spyderco sage, stretch zdp-189 and chaprall and soon a manix s110v

My question is at what angle from the factory are the blades set at? Eg. Should I use the 30 or 40 degree to keep them in shape before taking them to the strop?

Also if I want to put a microbevel on them do I use the 40 degree or will I be on the factory edge? If not then do I take the brand new blade and start at 40 with the medium and work all the way up to the ultra fine rods I ordered on the sharpmaker or do I need to start on the lansky with corse stone for the microbevel?

Thanks!

The 40° works great. As the edge wears, you can back beval at 30° to help things along. Watch the video Sal did. It helps a lot.

It takes me a LONG time to sharpen ZDP on the sharp maker. I've heard that the diamond sticks help with that, but I just use the white ones with very little pressure.
