hey guys i'm looking to buy the spyderco sage carbon fiber for an EDC blade. is it a good choice? or are there better priced knives that offer the same quality for less?

There are SO many great knives that would make a terrific EDC in that price range that they're too numerous to mention. I have the Sage 2 (love it) and my son has the Carbon Fiber Sage 1 and he loves his as well, both are very well designed knives and I'm sure you'd be pleased with either.

I have the Sage 1 in carbon fiber and I love it. Fits great in hand and the CF adds to the attractiveness. For me, it is more of a fancy knife than anything but its not afraid of getting some of the tough jobs. Can't go wrong with it.

I have the sage 3 and its my second favorite EDC style blade.... Para 2 being my numero uno! The design of the handle is very comfortable but I would honestly look over a few videos on youtube of reviews on the product before purchasing if u plan on ordering it online. Just a quick note for FYI... each sage has a different locking style as the series is a tribute to the innovators in that field. Personally I want to get the sage 2 next then the 1 then the 4.... Yeah i love the sage series lol!

Lol yeah Spyderco know how to hook people with series. Just gotta get 'em all. I'll probably get them in order, Sage 2 is next on the list :)

The Sage 1 is an excellent choice. I really enjoy the carbon fiber and will probably look for other knives with carbon fiber handles in the future. It is really the perfect dress up / gentleman's knife and the wire clip makes it carry very discreetly.

The Spyderco Sage 1 is an amazing knife. Very smooth, excellent fit and finish from Taiwan. The carbon fiber feels great and the knife is solid. I love the wire clip.

I was thinking of getting the Sage 1 myself until I found out that the supposed carbon fiber handles are just a think sheet of carbon fiber with a thicker layer of g10 underneath and that really bothers me.

I have one, and don't think you can find a better locking knife for the price.

Really great design, and think you would be very happy with one.

Where did you hear or read this information? I think the Sage is a wonderful EDC and you really need to handle one to truly appreciate just how nice it is. I was trying very hard to find a mid-sized folder that I enjoyed using enough that would allow me to move down in size from my then EDC rotation of the BM Skirmish 630BK and Spyderco Manix C95 and the Sage 1 & 2 fit the bill perfectly.

I recently had a chance to handle a bunch of high end spydercos and was surprised by what actually felt good in my hand. I had fallen in love with the vallotten and the titanium sage after reading about them online and watching a ton of youtube videos featuring them but they turned out to be 2 of my least favorite knives once they were in my hand. Neither of them gave me that somewhat intangible feeling of quality that allows me to justify to myself the purchase of really expensive knives. The knife that did feel really good in my hand (and one that wasn't very high on my list before) was the spyderco gayle bradley (coming in the mail tomorrow or saturday!) My personal knife preferences aside, if at all possible you should try to handle the blade before you buy it. If you're like me you'll prefer something like a delica or a dragonfly (for less than half as much $). On the other hand, spydercos have an incredible resale value on this forum so if you don't like it you can always pass it on.

I had both a Sage 1 and 2. Sold the 2 because I needed $$. Dumb! Great knife! Its brother the Sage 1, is a fantastic stand-in for it. Different locking mechanism, smooth as silk, and sharp! You won't be disappointed in any of the series of Sages.

Best knife for the money, this is the highest quality knife I have ever handled in the $100 price range. I've been EDC'ing it for about a year and a half now and it's excellent! You will not regret it brother, go ahead and order one. You can thank me later!

I saw Tuffthumbz on YouTube take one apart and show the the under side of the handle scale and it was not carbon fiber underneath. Don't believe me take off the handle scale and see for yourself my friend. I don't wanna take away from the Sage 1 because it seems to be a very high quality knife, but I don't like it when companies lie about things it just bothers me. If the handles were fully made of carbon fiber then $100 would be a great deal for that knife, but I think as is it's overpriced.

IMO, It would still be one of the better buy's on the market even if it had full G10 handles.

I like the Caly 3 and Gayle Bradley designs better for carbon fiber Spydies - Sage is too thin in the handle especially for open construction and it has a very dainty build. Tries to be a pretty dress knife but really... :barf:

I think it's such a great knife. I seem to usually end up carrying one of my PM2s, but I'm always amazed at the quality on my Sage 1 when I pick it up. Perfect centering, super sharp, smallish, wire clip - it's an unbelievable deal for $100. I don't care what's under the carbon fibre on top of the scales. It's nice looking, nice size, and nice weight.

I've had 2 and both were perfect but for some reason I keep trading them off. I don't care about the scale content as the outer layer is beautiful and different from the smooth CF. (For me) I find the same price Paramilitary a better fit. For a Sunday go to meeting knife though the Sage 1 slides into them shiny pants like nothing.
