Hey guys, looking for feedback on the sage2 model from Spyderco. How has it held up in moderate use situations? Any opinions or responses regarding this knife would be appreciated.

Sage 2 is awesome, one of my fav spydercos. Definitely can stand up to some use.

I've had one for over two yrs. and it gets carried and used a lot. Lock-bar movement is one of the biggest concerns for Ti (RIL) frame-lock owners, and mine has only moved incrementally since new and currently sits at around 35/40% where it has remained since the first few months of use. Excellent considering the Sage 2's lock-bar face is left untreated.

I've experienced no lock rock or centering issues and the blade locks up solidly on every axis. Further, the bead blast finish Spyderco uses on the scales of the Sage 2 resists scratches, snail trails, and wear better than any other Ti folder I've had...on par, or perhaps even better than most stone washed finishes. The S30v performs well for most any task and sharpens fairly easily and holds a very sharp edge for a reasonably long time with moderate use, but can be a little chippy with hard use...however this is rare for most users and can easily be sharpened out.

Being a fan of 2.5 to 3" Ti framelocks, the Taichung Taiwan produced Spyderco Sage 2 and Techno (my absolute favorite EDC) have become my most carried and cherished folders I own and rival most any contemporary production folders (and some customs) currently produced. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these knives to anyone...you could do far worse.

I still love mine, but it doesn't see as much carry time since I got into ZT flippers:o

It's a great knife though. Amazing value considering what you get for the price.

Oh and the lockup on mine is still pretty good. It moved quite a bit in the first few days of constant flicking, but it has since settled in at around 70% and refuses to move no matter how many times I open it:thumbup:

Spyderco s30v is great, it's not really big enough for swing and chop type stuff so whatever you find you'll want to use it for it'll probably handle it. They've gone up in price since I got mine but it's still worth it, if the titanium frame lock is what's drawing you to it, I understand. If it's something else there's probably other options that are cheaper too, check out sage 1 and 3, the new three is pretty and the lock concerns are much less. The chaparral is awesome too, smaller, thinner, better steel (IMHO)....not a smooth flip to open but it's still one handed. All the options I'm mentioning are a considerable amount cheaper. That's why I mention them. Ive got the sage 2 and the chaparral in cts-xhp with the g10/cf handle.

My sage two did work while I was managing a nursery

I just got the sage 2 a week ago for my birthday and I love it already! It was love at first sight haha. It's my first ti handle knife and I'm really digging it. I'm definitely getting more and now I'm looking to get the other sages. The blade is so thin (but not to thin, that it will break by just cutting boxes) and sharp. It's such a good slicer. It feel's as thin as my caly 3.5 and that is one of my thinnest edges I own. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get one! I was afraid I wouldn't like the sage because I like gripy g10 so much. Hell, any kind of g10. I was worried about it having a sticky lock right out the box. I haven't had any problems so far with the lock. Lock up is solid at 45/50%. Hasn't moved yet either. It really does feel good in the hand. I thought it would be slippery like ss but it's not. It kinda remind's me of my crkt swindle. As far as to the touch goes, kinda. I would recommend it, as it has jumped to my top 3 favorite knives. Hell if you get it and don't like it, I will trade you a nib para 2 camo satin for it. I really like this knife. I bought mine at amazon for 140.

I have four of these NIB. I love these things. One of the VERY finest combinations of initial cost, utility, blade shape, length, blade-steel, handle-length and lock-type in the knife industry. It's like a heavier-duty Caly 3, and I love those also. All is IMO.

Not to be a hater, but... I had a Sage 2 for a few years, I carried it exclusively for the first year and loved every minute of it. The lock failed while carving a pumpkin. I didn't lose any blood to it or anything but I did start to lose faith in it. Shortly after I dropped it off at the factory while passing through Golden, CO. When I received it back I could still force the lock to fail with about twice the force one would normally use to close a frame lock. I haven't carried it since.

That being said, I still only carry Spyderco knives.
