I know this comes up from time to time but I wonder how many here would acutally buy a Spyderco SAK. Something simple like a Soldier with a framelock. Blade either 154CM or SV30. Say around $100 -150. I would personally love to have one but I don't know if there is a market.

I always carry a SAK as well as my EDC Spydie, It would warm the cockles of my heart to have both be Spyderco products.

(BTW, wnybody know what cockles are?)

I am a fully addicted Spydernut, no doubt about it.

Thanks Sal.

Chris:) :) :)

I already have a few spydies and actually i was this close to buying a Spyderco Pacific salt but i ended up buying a Victorinox One Hand trekker instead( 40$ Canadian). The trekker kinda is a SAK soldier with a spyderco style blade. If only it had a corkscrew instead of a philips it would be perfect!

Anyway regarding your query it looks like Victorinox beat Spyderco to the punch!

I'm very content with my Victorinox SAKs and I don't see any obvious problems that Spyderco's innovation could tackle. It seems like trying to make a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

If Spyderco managed to create a SAK so innovative that after using it you felt like you couldn't go back to Victorinox, I'd be interested. I just don't see what they can do to acheive this.

A simple super slim ZDP blade and a nail file would be enough for me.

If Spyderco could come out with a $30 knife that could compete with a Victorinox, I'd go for it. But there's no way I'd pay more than $50. Way too many really good multi tools out there in that price range. And as for competing with Victorinox... even the Chinese have a hard time doing that. A $150 Spyderco Scout/SAK would be of very limited appeal. Only Spydie nuts would go for it.

I think I would like the Spyderco version because of the blade steel, one hand opening and not needing to carry a multitool on my belt. (Or in my pocket. i.e. Juice) I don't usually need a full multitool on me all the time but I do frequently use a screwdriver. I have most of the available Leatherman, Swisstools and the SOGs but they are much bulkier than a slim Spyderco with a couple of screwdrives would be.

Theres nothing wrong with the blade steel in the Vic SAK's. They hold an edge well, can be honed hair shaving sharp and are easy to resharpen. I've owned Vic SAKs for close to 20 years, Currently i have a swisschamp/hunstman/recruit/OH trekker . I also own a Spyderco endura and a co-pilot. I own both Victorinox and Spyderco kitchen knives. Honestly i love spydercos but i find the Vics a little easier to sharpen and i find that they hold an edge better. Of course my spydercos are a little older and they have changed the steels a few times since i bought them and on some models they also offer some higher grade steels now as well. But really they are both really great brands.

I think so too. (Note my signature.) The steel isn't really the main issue even though the steel Spyderco uses is better. I also like the idea of a sub 3" main blade with a frame lock. Neither Victorinox or Wenger makes one. (Yes I have a couple of the Wenger knives with locks. They aren't particularly comfortable to use.) Overall, I think a Spyderco SAk would fit my needs better. I'm not even sure if it's economically feasible. But maybe as a Byrd....
