My Salsa is the blue Al model, i got in a couple of hours ago in the mail.
The first thing i noticed about the knife was its size, it's not as small as i expected from the specs, it's a broad knife, for comparison, the narrowest part of the handle (when closed, at the top above the blade)is about the same breadth as the main body of my BM710, the Salsa in general is much wider.
I like the clip and the way the knife rides in my pocket, it's quite stiff and requires some effort to draw, but i expect it will loosen up within a few days, otherwise i will slip a piece of cardboard or a slim piece of wood under the clip and leave it for a while to set.
This is my first folder with an anodized aluminium handle, i like it a lot, the finish adds an interesting look to the knife and has a very high-quality look to it. I like the pepper, i think the Salsa would look a little plain without it, the difference in finish provides a nice contrast. I find the handle to be very comfortable.
The Cobra-hood works very well, definately a worthwhile addition IMO.
This is probably the sharpest Spyderco i've had out of the box, more of a polished edge than others, i used it to cut a string tag of a new t-shirt this morning and felt the edge slipping a little, didn't bite into the string, it takes hairs off very easily, i also used it to slice through a few strips of cardboard, very efficient cutter.
Fit and finish is very good, especially for a 'new' knife, only problems were a few minor scratches on the compression lock and some strange grind lines, neither of which are too noticeable.
The action is very smooth, i really like the feel of the knife, the way it fits in my hand, the lock-up is very secure, no blade-play, an incredible design, Spyderco really did the business with the Salsa.
I don't intend to carry the Salsa by itself, i generally prefer pointier blades, but i will carry it as an EDC accompanyment to my BM 710, for situations where i need a more comfortable handle (for me), a better performing blade, or when i would be more likely to get in trouble for having a medium-large tactical-looks folder like the 710.
I plan on picking up the Ti version as soon as i can put up the funds.
:D

After reading the specs, it seems that at nearly 3oz. this is a relatively heavy knife, for it's size. That is the one drawback to my beloved stainless steel Spydie Navigator.

Don't let the weight put you off, it rides very comfortable in the pocket, you wouldn't notice it until you needed it.

I also can’t consider my Ti-Salsa overweighed as to offered strength, dimensions, handling and carrying comfort.
Though it is somewhat heavier than Aluminum model.

Nice review, Mathew, thanks!
I plan on picking up the Ti version...
And this is what makes this knife especially sneaky. If someone will buy one – earlier or later he or she will want to collect them all ;)
Beware Friends of this dangerous item :D
