Hey guys, I have a salt I with barely any use on it. Since its fully serrated and I'm not afraid to get it dirty and throw it in the sink, I was thinking about carving a pumpkin with it. Do you think the hard back and forth pressure and maybe side to side wiggling will ruin the knife due to the frn handles and somewhat loose pivot?

No, but on the other hand, I think something with a more acute point and a narrower bade would make carving a pumpkin a heck of a lot easier.

If you use it carefully, I'll bet that salt 1 will dice up a pumpkin with ease..Of course you don't want to have the blade buried deep and try to twist it causing excessive stress on the pivot point..

The Deacon is right; you ought to use a knife with a more acute point and narrower blade--like the Spyderco Captain. :p

Unless you're looking at carving a simple design with triangular eyes and angular teeth, you should probably opt for a fixed blade. I bet the Salt I could tackle the job, but probably with more effort than need be.

The Salt 1 is such a great little knife for the money, in spite of being a bit off for pumpkin carving.
