Hey y'all! So while taking apart my manix 2 xl for some measurements to make replacement scales with, I managed to strip the head of one of the body screws. Will spyderco sell me some replacements, or am I on my own? I don't know if I should go through the trouble of figuring out how to request some and such. Some of the older forum posts I've read have parts where spyderco sent some out, even for free! However, with more recent posts, they couldnt get any sent out.

It's my fault that I stripped the screw. I was working distracted, and I just slipped up. I'm not going to be mad at spyderco or anything, it's my fault. I just want to know if I can fix it without sending it in and paying for work.

no luck eh, check this out: http://usaknifemaker.com/folding-knife-parts.html?SID=6a40025c59357bd697a195fc66b3e227

I stripped and broke spydie screws before. Sent them a message through their website and received new ones in the mail soon after. Great service!

did you used a password or what?!? I was refused washers twice over the phone....''send it in and w'will see then'' they say...

I sent an email explaining it was my fault, and offered to pay. In reply I got a request for my address. Very pleased.

A while ago I lost a scale screw on a Para2, emailed Spyderco asking to buy a replacement set of black screws, they replied asking for my address and just mailed them to me. Way cool Spyderco

Mael333,
Washers indicate complete disassembly, which they dont condone. Body screws can be stripped without disassembly.
I requested a screw for a Domino a while back. Kristi replied that they dont typically stock parts for knives made overseas, but she'd see what she could do. About a week later, I recieved a screw in the mail. Spyderco has excellent customer service, but they limit what parts theyll send out.

ok, I got one terribly stripped to destruction screw on my g10 endura. I have ordered an FRN endura as to cannibalize it to restore the g10 one. the blade as to be swapped. I believe the previous owner broke the tip off and did not properly restored it, as the tip is showing proud of the handle when closed. I'll inquired about getting a new screw, because the shortened blade I would still use in the kitchen with the FRN scale. I'll see about posting the responses right here then. I do hope they come trough, they are my favorite manufacturer :)

I hope they come through. Worst come to worst, there are lots of places to find replacement screws. Alpha Knife Supply and Knife Kits to name a few.

This might not be your case but I had similar issue on my Aqua Salt, where one of the screws that kept the sheath and the clip together went missing. I went to a local hardware store and found a similar sized screw and is now fixed (applied some loc tite).
I also normally prefer to get the correct brand for even spare parts... but I didn't want to pay the shipping fee and wait for its arrival when I can buy multiple amounts for less at a local store (I really didn't want to pay over 15 bucks for one screw to have it arrive within 2 to 3 days)
So, you could try brining the measurements or a spare screw of same size to a local hardware store to see if you can find a screw that will fit... even if it might not be the exact brand. Good luck.

Seems in canada our hardware stores are poorly equipped. But I did find screws on here like 25 for less then 6$ https://www.usaknifemaker.com/ but like you said, I'd prefer a factory screw. I would not have minded purchasing a repair kit for the single screw, but that is no longer and option.

This is the inquery I sumitted just a few minutes ago from their web site
''Hello, I recently acquired a rare find on ebay, a g10 endura 4. Not evident from the pictures online, the blade was regrind and is about a mm short of been proud from the handle when closed. I ordered a FRN Endura4 from amazon.ca that I am expecting this week. My problem is that the lock bar screw on the g10 stripped out like butter when I tried to remove it, which I finally did with an extractor.

I could still use the old blade in the new FRN handle for kitchen use, which the knife excels at. Could you guys send me a replacement screw?

here are my coordinates:

You are overseas though, sending our knife to the US for a screw would cost you an arm and a leg. It's less expensive to simply mail them to you.

Most companies will ship fasteners and such overseas. Those of us in the US are not always so lucky, probably why they asked you to send it in.

I believe they will send screws for free in the US as well. Just not internals. I could be wrong, however.

Spyderco, from what I've read, can often come through for their customers in regards to this issue. Other makers can't or won't.

Case in point, I have a Kershaw Cryo Two that lost a screw. When I contacted Kershaw through Instagram, showing them a picture of the knife, all I got was crickets. Of course, I will freely admit I did not follow up and did not call the company. But I suspect if I had called, they would have said, "tough crap, we don't stock China made parts here."

Spyderco is different in that they will help, because they truly care about their product and customers. Kershaw does not IMO.

Instagram is hardly a customer service channel lol. Kershaw and ZT is in fact a manufacturer who sends small parts no questions asked. I take it it is part of the reason American made products are more expensive then Chinese ones, labor cost aside. I understand that in ZT's great pricing, they have covered these small warranty issues. It is a excellent customer service way of doing business. I could suspect that spyderco has tighter business numbers, hence their policies. I'm still waiting on an answers from them, They might be inquiring with the managers on what response to provide me with. Even if a ask for a screw, not covered by their warranty, I sure don't come on as a bad customer IMO.

Like I said, I did not follow up, but I have had response from Kershaw through IG before. I'm just cynical and jaded maybe. lol.

well! I did get a response from Charlynn and she did came trough for me! :)

''I can send you a clip screw that will fit the scale but we not stock most of the repair parts do to spec changes. If a knife has a warranty issue it’s generally replaced not repaired also damage from disassembling the knife voids the warranty. Because of spec changes swapping the blade may not be possible on the knives you are trying to blade swap or if it does the lock may not work correctly. Parts ship about ever 5 business days.
