Spyderco: Seki City, Japan or Golden, Colorado??

Any opinions on which are better? I know both make good blades.

Thank you

That's my experience in a nutshell. Fit and finish on models from both Golden and Seki are top-notch. Again, there are always hiccups but Spyderco's customer service has a very high reputation.

I've found that the Golden made blades seem to have more rounded edges for comfort and tend to have a little more precise grind, other than that the differences are negligible. Should note that their Taiwan made blade seem to be on par with the Seki made blades now.

I very much prefer the Golden knives, but then again I'm very partial to the Military. The Sage II and some of the other Taiwan knives coming out have impeccable fit and finish.

Depends on what you mean by "better". The Golden made knives with 4mm blades are probably the most rugged, but I've never been impressed by any of them in terms of fit and finish, the models from Japan would have a decided edge in that department. However, with the demise of the Kiwi and Micro-Dyad, the absolute best fit and finish would be on the knives from the maker in Taiwan who does the Sage, Chokwie, Terzuola SlipIt and Bradley Folder.

Agreed :)

The grinds on my Seki knives are often uneven (the flat saber grind on the logo side is a lot longer than the one on the reverse side), but I didn't see that with the Native, the only Golden Spyderco that I own. That's about all I can say as for the differences.

I love Seki City. But in America I have two defective knife. (( That's life, do not limit yourself, buy what you like and enjoy in the fun! ))

My opinion? Both places are first rate manufacturers. Both produce fine knives.

I absolutely agree with Paul's observations here. Generally speaking all the factories maintain a high level of quality work while each factory does seem shine in different areas. In saying that I've had both outstanding and rather average examples from all of these different countries of manufacture.

I have tried and owned a lot of knives and Spyderco has consistently produced some of the finest knives, IMO. Of the different places that Spyderco has manufactured knives, the two that really stand out for fit and finish are Taiwan and Italy. I simply couldn't ask for better quality knives.

My Delicas beat my Military in terms of fit and finish. I carry the MILI more though.

My impression is that the ones from Golden that I have owned, seemed to have a little bit "softer edges" that the hand is in contact with. With very nice, symmetrical grinds.
They must go through a couple of extra deburring steps or something.

I've gotten some horrible grinds on ZDP seki blades. The swedges on my Lum Chinese are so different I thought it may have been off on purpose. I assume it is due to the difficulty of working with ZDP so I don't make a stink about it because it cuts like the dickens!

I've been impressed with the fit and finish of all my Taiwan knives. For some reason though, I haven't been able to keep one!
