Spyderco Serrated H-1 Edge Retention and "Work Hardening "

A Crucible metallurgist was curious as to claims, and did micro Rc tests on a serrated H1, and came up with mid-60s readings on the serrations getting softer the further away from edge. Theory is/was the extra belt friction causing a hard layer to form on surface, or extra heat make a deeper transformation. Either way, sending it back for resharpen when needed is indicated. I have been happy with mine.

Still a softer old style stainless base metal, dents and bends edges/tips rather than chips/breaks, and highly recommend using a smooth steel or brass rod in scallops and a smooth flat steel surface (to include a stainless sink edge) to iron any deformed metal back into place and remove burrs before even any abrasive applied.

They cut and cut in my experience, and the only serrated I own and use. I bought every old original lighter linerless Salt I could get my hands on...just today, "repaired" one gifted to a restaurant manager, who let an employee borrow it, who then cut cardboard on a stainless tabletop...mainly all i had to do was steel the edge straight and strop with rouge.
