Hi All,
I’ve just started folding knife collecting this year and bought a Shaman last week. I got it today and like a lot about it, but hate the nub on the chill that wedges into the compression lock. Does anyone have any ideas for how to work to address this? I’m pretty new to mods, so not sure if I can file this off or workaround otherwise prevent my finger from getting pinched.
Thanks in advance.

Are you disliking it when it's open or closed? Personally I wouldn't touch it, I would let it spend more time in your hand and pocket and see how your preference evolves.

You can always sell it and get something else, but you'll hurt the value a lot if you abrade off part of the blade.

Yes you can sand or file it off, but be aware that you're voiding your warranty and reducing the value. Of course if this is a user knife just for you, go at it!

I don't recommend modding it but if you want I could mod it for you on my horizontal belt sander. No charge.

I’ve noticed this nub hitting my finger when I initially got the knife.

My suggestion: practice to move your finger away from the lock area the moment you’ve disengaged the lock, then this becomes a non-issue.

Thanks for the responses. I will give it some time to see if I can adapt. I feel it on both opening and closing, but it irritates me most on opening. I had liked to open my PM2 with the compression lock, so I might just have to change here.
And thanks Knibes for the offer!

If i did it I would just mark the offending part of the blade with a marker while the knife is closed. Then take apart the knife. Then slowly remove material from the choil on a small round contact wheel.

All the way you use it. lol. I use the hole with my thumb or flick with my index finger. It only bugged me when it bumped my thumb when closing. (left handed)

If you do end up modding it, make sure that you intend to keep it regardless of how you like it after the mod, or be prepared to accept 50% or less than what you paid for it if you try to sell it.

Hi Catman,

Welcome to our forum.

I would suggest that, as mentioned, you don't mess with it and use the knife for a while. I believe you will adapt. The knife was very carefully designed over a 2 year period, refining in very small increments. It is exactly as it was designed to be.

Something I've picked up with the nub... You can use it (press on it) to break the detent so you can wrist flick it open. If so desired.

Open, it's the best feeling folder I've ever owned. And it's pretty as all get out.

Hi All,
Thanks so much, I’ll play around with handling options. I think part of my challenge may be a bit of initial stiffness with the compression lock itself, so that will likely improve things over time.

OP,
I got the same feeling from that nub/gaurd. I think you’ll get used to it after a while, if not, don’t use it a lot and sell it.
There are a lot of knives out there, you don’t have to settle for one that doesn’t suit you.

I mean, I can feel it, but its not really a big deal since its not like it hurts or is really in the way. After using it you won't even notice its there. It does serve a purpose when open so just keep using the knife and get used to and forget about it soon enough.

It is a Spyderco, open it with the hole like intended. I personally have had no issues with it hitting my finger while closing.

Hello fellow knife lovers. I got a blade hq exclusive shaman in M4 last week and started playing with it last night for the first time. I noticed that the knife has a lot of tiny chips in the edge and it is super hard to disengage the compression lock. To the point it is a two hand closing knife. I also got the DLT exclusive paramilitary 2 in 20 Cv and that knife came perfect. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their shaman?

My compression lock was very, very stiff which I think was part of the problem I was having with this. I didn’t have any issue with the chipping.
