Hey everyone:

I just recently picked up a sprint run of the Shaman with carbon fiber scales and s90v steel. I love the knife. However, I feel it may be a bit "too nice" to carry as EDC. I have my eyes on a Manix 2 Lightweight in Maxamet. I feel this would be a much more appropriate EDC piece. What are your thoughts on these two knives as EDC options?

If I'm not willing to carry it, I won't own it. To me, a knife is tool first and foremost. Nice to admire and play around with, but to me the ultimate joy is using it.

I love my flippers, but when I reach for a knife I know I may need to use a lot, everything else goes out the door.

My most used and regularly carried is a Manix 2 sprint CTS-XHP. With custom ironwood scales. It does everything well, or well enough.

The Manix 2 is a phenomenal knife, though I know little about maxamet.

I have ZT 0095 S90BLK sprint and I can attest that S90V is good stuff.

So, scatterbrained conclusion:

Buy the Manix, use them both!

I’ll join the consensus. If I don’t find myself using a knife it gets sold or traded off, usually pretty quickly. My keepers are the ones I use and enjoy (because I use them).

I do have one or two exceptions to this, but I consider them investments. I’m only waiting on the right time to sell, and their days are numbered (because I don’t use them).

I don’t even look at the couple of knives I’ve decided I’ll never use. They bring me no joy at all. They are like a girlfriend after you’ve already made up your mind to move on.

A nice knife is one that can bring you joy, be through using it, fondling it, babying it, or just looking at it. So, you do not have to use it in order to justify your purchase of a knife. With that being said, the two knives are both durable enough as EDC folder. Light daily use won't even put scratches on them. No need to worry.

Well thanks for the input. I’ve just placed an order for a Manix 2 LW in Maxamet. Can’t wait to include it in the rotation!
