Spyderco Sharpmaker and Khukri

I've been meaning to put an edge on a Sarco Khukri for about a year now and finally had the chance to do so today. I picked up the diamond sticks for the sharpmaker a while ago and have used them a little to get my kitchen knives and my EDC folder in shape. This khukri is about as dull as a butter knife, so I figured I had my work ahead of me.

Here are my results. On the left side of my blade, I have scratch marks for the entire false blade portion of the knife, and the right side has a nice angle to it. I don't really know much about sharpening knives so I'm kind of going at this blind. I hope I'm using the right terminology.

When I hold the knife in my right hand with the back of the blade facing my face and the edge of the blade pointing towards my feet, it's the left side of the blade that's all scratched up. I can't differentiate between the 30 degree angle grind and the 40 degree angle part on that side, where on the right side it's clear as an azure sky of deepest summer. I was looking at the blade with my right eye shut as I sharpened today, so I guess from that POV I was just scraping the whole of the left side of the blade against the diamond sticks.

After an hour of taking 100 swipes and testing with paper, I finally got the blade to cut the paper. It would kind of grudgingly grab a piece of the edge of the paper and tear it in a rough approximation of the direction of the blade... so I'm guessing it's not exactly sharp just yet.

Another 100 strokes. And another. Now the fat part of the blade will cut, but not the heel or the tip.

And still I can't see a difference between the 30 degree part and the 40 degree part.

I watched the video a couple times and I can tell homeboy is using a nice smooth even motion that comes from his shoulder to get the blade grinding against both sticks. He didn't seem to be closing one eye or the other.

Suggestions?
