Greetings,

Anybody have a Benchmade 710 D2??? Use the Spyderco Sharpmaker to sharpen it??? Well, I just bought the 710 and would like to maintain its sharpness using the Sharpamaker. Which angle to I set the triangular stoner....30 or 40 degrees to maintain the factory angle??????

I'm guessing the angle would be the same for my new Mini-dejavoo?

I bought my 710D2 used so I have no idea what the factory edge is like. But I can tell you that I've had excellent results with the D2 bringing my bevel down to 12 degrees per side with a 15 degree micro-bevel. I sharpen freehand so those angles may be off by a degree or two but that's the basic idea. Maintaining an edge on D2 is fine with the Sharpmaker, but if the blade is really dull, it may take a good deal of time and patience. Best not to ever let it get dull. I use a Sharpmaker ultra-fine rod to put on the final hair-whittling edge but I just hold the rod in my hand.

If you need to reprofile the edge I would try to get something in diamond to cut faster.

The 710D2 is one of my favorites knives. Pretty honkin' for such a lightweight, relatively slim folder. Enjoy it.

seems the answer to my questions should be pretty simple. maybe i need to know what angle the factory edge is on benchmade knives.

the only 2 choices i have for the sharpmaker is 30 or 40 degrees. all i want to do is touch up the blade(s). they are already pretty darn sharp.

I have both and have been using the 30. just for touch-ups. Works fine.

I have a 710 d2, and an older sharpmaker.....It only has one set of holes at 40 degrees.
The Factory edge is ok, If you dont want to reprofile the edge you can still make it considrably better by just using the flat parts of the fine (white stones) stones. I was suprised at the difference made by just patiently, and gently running it over those stones.

sorry for being too complicated, use the 30 degree setting.

You aren't limited to just 30 or 40 degrees with the Sharpmaker, you can slide something under one side of the base to change the angle.
