I recently purchased a Sharpmaker and the problem I am having is that when I put the sharpener rod into the scisscor sharpening slot the base lifts from the bottom of the rest of the body when I put pressure on the rod to sharpen.I could screw it down to a wood base but then I wouldnt be able to access the bottom grooves without taking it off all the time. Any ideas as what would be the best way to fix this ??????? Glue of some kind .......

Thanks

I know what you're talking about because I had the exact problem. I bet you can't even prevent the halves of the base from being apart by the rod....Even if you placed the cover on top of the base and held it down with the weight of you're whole body. Learn from my mistake, don't sent it into Spyderco and simply epoxy it you're self.

i always hold down the other side of my sharpmaker so it doesn't move around. You could also bolt it to the table, it has screw holes pre-drilled.

Thanks for the tip Razorburn, at leat one guy know what I am trying to say!!!!!!!!!!! Can't beleive how stupid some people think a person can be !!!!

Bearcat,I think it's probably safest to say most people don't use the scissor feature or the groves on the bottom of the SM base.Instead only use the 30 and 40 degree slots to sharpen their knives but I do understand where you coming from as I sure find it frustrating when equipment doesn't work as it was designed. In my case,I sent in my SM for the same issue and came back with another.

With cover off, the slots in the base facing upwards, the rods placed flat on either side of the center and immediately upon placed a razor one the rod at on end the base the other end of the rod would lift up.Kind of like a rocking chair
