Spyderco Sharpmaker. What is this thing? Do you use it like a regular stone?

Well you could, but that sort of defeats the purpose. The 204 is probably one of the easiest to use sharpening systems today. It does take alittle practice and there were some 204s that had "nicks" and irregularities in the ceramic which drove some of us bonkers. Spyderco fixed that. Properly used, it's great device.

It's a good, very easy to use system. You have a choice of a 30 degree or 40 degree included angle. All you have to do is draw the blade through the device at an angle perpendicular to the device and alternate your strokes form side to side. Learning to use it is very easy--especially with the included video and instruction booklet

If you need to do a major re-profiling of your edges, diamond rods are now available. 'Good luck.

I can´t see the difference. The whole secret of the triangle is to turn the "Stone" from lying down to upside in 90°. The angle is the same. If you use a benchstone, you might choose a smaller angle.

How to use the triangle? For touching ups and the last strokes i take the rods freehand. Why not? There are "Profile"-rods on market for freehand use....

For the last strokes, not more.

You will get the edges very sharp, just cutting away the fine burr is a bit hard, maybe use a belt.
