Spyderco Sharpmaker

Works well and its way way under 200 bucks. Way under a 100 I think.

Anyway, I am not a good sharpener and this puts a good edge on a knife. It generally gets the best reviews for anybody not really handy with freehand or not willing to pay several times more for a more high end sharpener.

You probably don't want this for profiling, too slow and the diamond rods are expensive.

I've been disappointed with the quality because the rods have chipped out in a few places without any type of misuse. I could buy replacements not too expensive but haven't.

The diamond rods are a little pricey, but would still be well under $200 total. I have all 4 sets (medium coarse and fine, which come with the SM, diamond, and ultra fine), and I use them on a daily basis. None have chipped yet, but if they did, i would send them in for warranty.

is there something better out their for under 200 bucks?
Any info would be appreciated

EdgePro Apex
Three different kits, $200 and under. It is supposed to be the best non-freehand sharpening system. I have no personal experience with them, but judging by the website and the videos I've seen, I'm inclined to agree. Try google if you want more information.

Well equipped EdgePro Apex can be had from multiple places on the iNet for $125.
Sharpmaker is around $50 (not including diamond or UF rods).

Apex is best bang for your buck, although overkill when it comes to weekly touchups. I use the Apex for serious work, then the S/M for touchups. And before you ask, yes you can shave with the edges from either tool.
