I often read on this and other forums (fora?) that Spydercos are invariably very sharp right out of the box.
I have found an exception. I ordered a Kopa turquoise from a dealer who must have old stock and it came quite dull. I tried to open an envelope yesterday with it and noticed that. I used one of its sister Kopas, and it was quite sharp. I tried to cut a piece of stationary/typing/copier paper with its point, and it was dull. Not so the other Kopas.
I'm not much on sharpening, but I will get it done. FWIW, the box it came in was for a Blue Bone Kopa, so who knows its history. It was purchased from a dealer and looked brand new.
On another topic, I managed to get a Jess Horn and I really love the blade. However, there does not seem to be the same blade available in the current Spyderco catalog. The closest seem to be BM470 Emissary and the BM707 Sequel, the latter I really like.
Anyway, as a born curmudgeon, I can be a naysayer for those who in the future declare Spydercos to be perfectly sharp right out of the box.
