The latest sharpening system i'm using (& I have a TON of them) is the KME. Amazing little device. I like it. I can usually get a fantastic edge on any of my knives.
However, my new Spyderco Siren needed sharpening. 3...4 hours later.
My Siren Still needs a Good sharpening. It's driving me Mad. Have i lost my sharpening mojo???
My stones & kit are in excellent repair. My 2nd try, I started with the 100 grit stone, & I'm using a 17 degree angle (it was closest to the factory edge). Is their something extra difficult with the LC200N? I've never had a blade of that steel. I've sharpened plenty of H1.

I'm raising the burr, taking my time, but i'm just Not getting it right. I can't even slice post-its with the blade. Any ideas, suggestions? (Other than " Learn to freehand......blah blah blah."
I have enough butter knives, thank you, & don't need any $100+ butter knives that I would MOST certainly turn Any knife into once I worked MY Freehand-Majik on it)

Thanks for any help/ideas.

Are you getting rid of the burr in between changing grit sizes? I usually lightly go over the edge 1-2 times per side a few times before going to the next finer grit. I have found in the past if there is any burr remaining, that the edge seems dull. I have heard others draw the edge on wood to get rid of the burr as well.

I also, some time ago, got myself a jewellers loupe so I can see close up what is happening on each side of the bevel and the edge.

I don't know if any of this helps, just some ideas that came to mind...

Just use the 100 for now. Pay attention to your fundamentals and don't use too much pressure or overdo things. Raise a burr on one side. That shouldn't take much. Flip it and do the same. The do your light de-burring from side to side. If you have a strop use it.

You should be sharp at this point. It will be really toothy but should cut paper and shave arm hair. No point moving beyond in grits if not.

What Eli said, just reprofiled a Benchmade Ruckus, s30v, last night, started with 100 grit KME until it sliced catalog paper, went thru 1500. It is slicey now. Actually started with 60 grit Venev, old formula, and found my first use of this stone would not cut. Gonna abrade surface with some SIC left over from kids polishing rocks, and try that stone again. Glad I got the KME 100 because it cuts as fast as I need. Truth be told I skip the 140 usually and go to 300.
