Hello all. Rob here, new member, first post.
I'm down for a couple of sprint runs. Like tons of other her I'm in for the Toku2 sprints in a Stretch and hoping to score a Delica on BHQ when they are listed. I put the stretch on preorder in the last 3rd of March. Anyone care to guess if I'll be ok, or too late? I'm guessing I'll have better luck with the PM2 REX 45 sprint as I got the preorder done a day or 2 after listing.
I get the idea you have to keep an eye on these tings or miss the boat fast.

I was actually kind of wondering how sprint runs work too. I have a pre-order in on the Delica Wharncliffe in HAP40.

Is there usually a little forum buzz or confirmation from Sal Glesser Sal Glesser saying "it should be released sometime next month"?
Or do you just wake up and see that it's in stock (or more likely sold out)?

Sometimes we hear from Sal that a new model is going through Quality Assurance. So we know it's coming soon.
Sometimes we see a new model on youtube being displayed by a Collector Club member. They get them first.
Sometimes we see one of these Collector Club samples being sold on the auction site.
Preorders are dicey because sometimes a retailer will take more orders than can be filled. While you're waiting for your preorder to be fulfilled, you may find that the model is available sooner elsewhere. You may wait and then your preorder is never filled.
So in general if you're preordering what is expected to be a hot seller, you need to make sure you're very early. Another reason to preorder would be because you don't have the time to frequently check on retailers websites.

I think its really poor form that a retailer takes more preorders than knives stocked to them. They have to know how many they are getting prior Im sure. Yes some people pull out but i bet its only 5%.... which would sell anyway. Its just bloody greedy in my eyes.

I'm going to guess the opposite. I think there will be plenty of all versions of VTOKU to go around and that there will be a bit of a knife fight around getting the REX45 PM2.

Basing my read on past releases of sprints.

I can’t imagine there will be any issue getting a VToku or Rex45 sprint if you check this forum or online stores somewhat regularly. Preorders with BHQ or KC have never been convenient for me except maybe for one of their exclusives. DLT, GP, KW... a bunch of places often get sprint runs in stock first.

If I had waited for my KC preorder for the Para 3 in Maxamet, I would never have got one. On the other hand, I was able to just order one from DLT at my leisure. They were in stock at least a week and KW had them in stock even longer - long enough for me to consider buying a 2nd one.

I’m going to get a Delica, Dragonfly, and Endura in vtoku. Same with the PM2 and Para 3 in Rex45. Not fooling around with a preorder. Just going to pick them up from whoever gets them in stock first or has them in stock at the time. If I had to guess, they’ll be available for weeks, if not months. That’s just me wildly speculating, though.

Happy hunting

The Rex sprints should be brisk sellers with the PM2 and Para3 going first. The Military will hang around a bit longer. The V-Toku line will go pretty fast too. Seems like the Delica is the most popular, then Endura and last Stretch. Just speculating.

The Rex 45 Military, PM2 and Para 3 are sprint runs not dealer exclusive, which means all/most Spyderco dealers will get some (at least for now I see BHQ, KC, and GPK), which I suspect also means the total number will be larger than a dealer exclusive run like the BHQ DLC M4 jade PM2. So if I am not mistaken, none of them will be snatched within minutes or hours, although I agree with AF AF that PM2 will be sold out first.

I am not pre-ordering any of them. Instead, I'll just order them (at least definitely Military and PM2) as soon as they are available. I don't believe I'll fail to snatch any of them.

Sprints are typically announced well in advanced often 6 months or more even, dealer/distributor exclusives are often more sudden and frequently come out with only weeks notice.

One guaranteed way to probably miss out on a sprint is to pre order via KC, they’re notorious for WAY overselling especially on sprints.
