Hey guys im about to come into owning one of these and i want a complete history on them any one know by chance?

release date?
recall date?
designer?
why recalled?
how long made?

things like this im going to do a video after i collect all the information on it basically as a history of the spyderco spyderfly and i could really use some help with the fact5s and making sure they are correct i know a good bit about them already but like i said i want to make sure i tell only truth not rumors so anyways guys thanks let me know everything ^_^
 
46 views and no replies yet so does nobody know or is this to touchy of a subject seeing as how they almost got shut down over this knife?
 
The Spydiewiki page Rycen referred you to has the basics. The first post in this thread in the Restricted Items subforum of the Spyderco Factory Forum expands on the legal aspects. You might also want to visit this page and download the PDF versions of the catalogs of that period, they might contain other tidbits of interest to you. As for who designed it, like most "in house" designed Spydercos at that time, the Spyderfly was not attributed to any one individual. Only someone from Spyderco could say for sure, but I suspect the answer would be that an number of people had a hand in it even if Sal was responsible for 99% of it.

FWIW, perhaps the uiltimate irony is that there are now some fake Spyderflys out there, no doubt imported from China.

yea im gonna check out that page i didnt know there was a spydie wiki thats pretty cool and yea ive seen the fakes if you know what to look for you can spot them a mile away lol but yea they are imported from china
