It's been two decades since I bought a Spyderco. A few weeks ago I gave that last one I bought to my brother because he loves them so much. So I felt like I needed to replace it, everyone should have (a real) one anyways. Not my first choice in knife brands but this one fits the criteria for its intended uses.

I always carry a second smaller blade in the off side for them real light duty tasks and it's mostly when my hands are tied up holding stuff or dong something with my primary knife hand. Trivial first world problem ya know. Not happy with the current blade in that role (Schrade small cheapie believe it or not). So I had enough. I like the slip joint feature, reversible clip for left side carry, perfect blade size for intended tasks. Only unknown is the steel. if it's a dud for steel I'll let Yall know.

It's a good steel and Spyderco does well with it. I have a Spy-DK and just got a PITS and they're two of my favorites.

I almost got the DK but I like the larger hole in the squeak. I've handled a Chicago and it was a few bucks cheaper but I like the slip joint feature so I ponied up the extra few dollars.

I got my daughter a Squeak and loved it so much I got me one also. Reminds me of the Co-Pilot that I loved so very much.

Heard the steel described as "Like VG-10, but with a little more corrosion resistance." Not that I've really ever had an issue with VG-10 corrosion

Not sure about Spyderco's treatment of the steel, but I've had decent luck with N690co. Good, if unspectacular, performance all around. Only aspect I dislike is that I find it tends to throw a big, floppy burr when sharpening.
