Well, after seeing the deal at Smokie moutain knifeworks that shootist16 pointed out, I went ahead and ordered a standard in the plain edge. I got it today - and it seems terrific. I was going to buy a CRKT small pointguard as a more "public use" type knife, but.. wow, the standard is by far superior. Thanks alot spyderco and shootist16 for helping me develop my mild knife collecting obsession into a full blown disorder.

Does spyderco make a bad knife? I dunno, but I'm going to keep buying them until I find one.

You are welcome. I am glad that my fellow forumites were able to take advantage of the deal. The standard is a great knife.

The Standard Model rocks. It is a heavy-duty, thick, and well made knife.I like G-10 anyway.
Too bad they have been dropped.
I got three of them about 8 months ago when Smoky Mountain offered them for $40-$45.

Hi Dennis !

I purchased one on EBAY about a month ago for $30 and I love it. I have seen quite a few for sale on EBAY lately.

I ordered one quite awhile ago and it did have the one side steel liner.

I have to agree with the others here that this is a really great knife...Very solid well built knife.

The standard rocks. I've been playing around with mine. I ground in some thumb grooves to the hump and a detent to the locking bar. I also re-profiled the primary bevel to a flat grind. Do you think I want a military junior.

I pulled my Standard out of the Knife Crypt again recently & it's due to be put back in carry rotation along with the $40.00 Rookie from SMKW. Great buys on great knives.
It's also the right size to fly with!
