I have a Spyderco Starmate which locks up with no side play, but there is a bit of up/down play. Is there a way to correct this? There's no torx screw attached to the stop pin so I don't know if rotating it will help. Also, is this an adjustment that can be done by the user, or will it have to be done by the folks at Spyderco? The reason I ask is because I got the Starmate in a trade, and I really, really, really like this knife.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi El Cid. Adjustment is made using a special tool that adjusts the eccentric pivot. Best done at Spyderco.

I stumbled upon this thread last night and couldn't resist the urge to try it. I followed the instructions carefully, and guess what? It worked! After a few very patient tries of course.

Since I got my Starmate (used) in a trade with no box or papers, I figured, what the heck and tried it.

I will also like to go on record to say that if you try this adjustment, you do so at your own risk. If you don't want to void your Spyderco warranty or risk ruining your knife, let the good folks at Spyderco fix it instead. ;)
