Spyderco produced a new Steel / Chemistry chart. We gave them to the Knife makers & associates exhibiting at the Custom Knifemakers Guild Show in New Orleans.

The chart is approx 6.5" (160 mm) x 4.75" (120 mm) printed plastic stock (.021")(.52mm).

One side contains 37 "Knife steels" and the percentage of their alloying elements.

The other side has the Periodic Table of Elements.

There are also some conversion charts for C/F, length, volume, mass, etc. A 6" ruler and a 160 mm ruler.

We hadn't thought about selling them or if anyone even would be interested in buying one. I sent one to James to scan for you. Let me know what you think. Maybe Charlie can stock them at SFO (Spyderco Factory Outlet)

Beth and I picked up a couple of these from Patrick during our trip. Very nice, very informative. Even better than the "sliding scale" type with the datelines on the back. Any way you can get these out to folks will be great to increase our Edge-U-Cation

Sounds good, I need a new periodic table anyway, mine only has 7 elements, and one of those is fire!

Sal,
I would be interested in buying one. I think it would be very helpful.

Sal,
I'd REALLY like to buy two of these. Is there any possibility to send some to Ramrod? How else can I get some over here? Will it make it through international postal service handling? Danelle is making up a package for me at this stage (some warranty issues) - any possibility to include two of the charts?

It would certainly help newbies learn about the steel that makes up their new favorite knives.

This sounds really nice. I always liked the steel chart on the Spyderco web page.

Does the new one have any information on typical grain sizes? That may be helpful in understanding different kinds of sharpness in different steels.

Incidentally, has Spyderco ever looked into making anything in non-stainless? I like using my Cricket, for example, to cut paper, open packages, etc. -- but not to slice food or cadavers. (I liked the idea for a micarta Cricket also.)

Sal,

I certainly like having an up to date reference

! I look forward to seeing the scan here from James. It should be easy to print it and then laminate it here if that's okay.

Bob - If it can be printed well enough, go for it. Would probably do the same job.
