Spyderco stones.

Scothbright pad and bartenders friend is what I use. If you keep a coating of simple vegetable oil on your stones you wont have to clean them nearly as often in my experience.

Hands down, barkeepers friend works the best.

I use stuff like Comet, Ajax or Barkeeper's Friend and a Scotchbright pad for the Sharpmaker rods and the Double Stuff. For the bench stone, I put a mix of dish soap and water on the stone while sharpening and just rinse it off afterwards. The soap and water prevents the stone from holding the debris you get when using the stones dry.

The reason I choose bar keepers friend over comet is there is a chemical reaction that occurs when you use it that aids in metal removal, it has been discussed on here.
I also know first hand that it will do a number on your hands! Russ

I'll try to pad. Prefer not use any chemicals

Thanks for your advice.

The problem is that the 'dirt' on the stones is oxidized metal dust from sharpening for which soap&water may not be enough.

That's why the need for stronger cleansers like BKF and Comet (which will not hurt the stones).

BKF uses oxalic acid as the active ingredient. It actually eats at the metal on the stone loosening it's bond. It makes Spyderco stones like new and cost about $2 a can at almost any store. Soap and water will do nothing.

The problem is that these trademarks do not exist in Spain.
I will seek a detergent with oxalic acid.
Thank you.

Barkeepers Friend is the best but if you can't find it in your country then Comet, Ajax, Bon Ami, SoftScrub....etc are good alternatives. They work best when used in conjunction with a green 3m scrubbing pad.
