So today, I took apart my Stretch, and I noticed 4 phosphor bronze washers..two on the outside of the blade, and two on the inside...has anyone seen this before? I found it to be a bit strange considering Endura's only have two...Any thoughts?

Sounds like somebody replaced the stock nylon washers with double stacked phosphor bronze

Oddly enough I took my Super Blue Stretch apart earlier today as well. It only has 2 small bronze washers.

Interesting. It did just come back from the Spyderco factory, so not sure what took place there. Interestingly enough, my ZDP-189 Stretch only has two washers as well.

I'm curious to know if you felt any difference in the pivot action with the doubled up washers? or did you only realize it once you took it apart?

Well, I could tell straight away that something wasn't right, and that's why I'd popped it apart. However, when I disassembled, I'd noticed a washer had fallen out when I'd already had two in my parts bowl. It was then that I'd realized there were two more washers, one between each scale and liner. Very strange.

My SB Stretch only has 2 p/b washers. Maybe when the knife was assembled they put 2 extra ones in by mistake?

Odd. Maybe call Spyderco and see if they have a record of what they did to it when you sent it in...?

If the knife was sent in because it was stiff, and the cause of that was the liners being a bit too thin, causing the scales to rub on the blade at the pivot, then adding a washer between the scales and the liner might be the way that problem was cured. At least it's the only reason I can think of for placing a washer between the scale and liner on a nested liner knife.
