I have decided to buy this new model but I'm unsure about which edge type I should get. I was just wondering if someone could shed some light on the advantages and disadvantages of a combo edge vs. a plain edge. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer plain myself. Slices more efficiently and is easier to sharpen. You have to pay a little more attention when sharpening a comboedge.
Do you have any really specific tasks that you'd use your knife for? As a general cutter/utility blade I don't think edge type between those two really matters anyway.

It really depends on what you want to use it for. I have one and love it, but my preference is for PE. For my use at home or at the office a PE works better for me. If i were cutting down boxes or had more aggressive cuts to make the CE would be better. Ask yourself "what do I want to use it for?" and that should answer your question.
