Hi guys,

I just pre-ordered a Spyderco Super Blue Stretch. Does anyone have an estimated arrival time? It looks like an awesome knife. Is there any consensus whether or not it will be laminated?

Yes, I am eagerly awaiting the release. I seem to recall Sal Glesser saying in the Spyderco sub-forum that he has been carrying one for a while giving it a final test run, so it should be soon. Unless there was some issue with it.

The tang just says "SUPERBLUE" and not 420J2/ SUPERBLUE. Unless the picture was shopped by Spyderco or KnifeCenter, (I certainly don't think it was), then IMO it's not laminated. ;)

Check out the same example picture for the Endura, only says "Superblue".

I'd bet on it being laminated. The Superblue goes all the way through the blade and is visible on the spine.

Ok, guess I'm wrong then :o

Japan doesn't export raw SuperBlue (however all stretches are made in Seki).

Interesting. I wonder why they would do that?

Harder (more brittle) steels are often laminated in a softer steel to imporve flexability, IDK the HRC of SuperBlue but that's exactly why they do it with ZDP-189, its just to bad they use such a soft steel that shows scratches so easily.

I've been debating between the CF Caly3.5 or the ZDP stretch for awhile now, I think this SB stretch will make the decision for me- [eventually] a SB stretch AND a CF Caly3.5, best of both worlds.

My guess is: Not everybody pays that much attention to detail & there is simply a lot of sloppy work & errors on the net. I notice a lot of errors on many websites, esp. inconsistent and just plain wrong specs.

I'm excited about this one, I'm loving the SB endura and delica so far.

@sunandsteel, it's seki-city produced I believe.
@everyone, I'm pretty sure Sal said on spyderco forums that all of the up and coming super blue sprints (delica, endura, stretch, dragonfly, manbug, and lady bug) will be laminated super blue / 420JC to make them easier to maintain. :)

Yep, just pre-ordered a SB Stretch myself. It should be a good companion to my SB Endura.:thumbup:
