[repost from “general discussion]
Hello guys!

I’m new to this forum. I have a question concerning the new Spyderco swayback. I know they’re starting to roll out to first preorder customers. I just preordered mine a week ago. I know it’ll be a little bit until someone is able to check aftermarket clips for the swayback, but I’m wondering what type of lynchnw clip would fit well for this model? I’m assuming the clip size could affect the frame lock function of the swayback, so a medium or short may work. Just looking to get ahead before mine eventually comes.

Kind of difficult to answer this as no one has the swayback in hand, nor has made aftermarket clips for them yet. I would imagine that if Lynch were to make an aftermarket clip, they would need to use a totally new design, unique to the swayback. (The swayback only has 2 screw holes and will need to be adjusted to fit the framelock properly)-idk what pictures i was looking at that showed this lol... apparently itll have a 3 screw clip!

Kind of just need to wait and see what people make!

The available production pics show the Swayback with a standard 3-hole clip (see below), so there should be aftermarket options. At least I am hoping that is the case, as I already purchased one in anticipation of replacing it.

It looks like the standard clips will fit, but if the stock screws are same as the smock, they’ll be skinnier, which might mean aftermarket clips would slide around if not tightened very firmly. I don’t know why they had to go and be different on the smock with the clip and screws, but I hope they never repeat it.

MXG Gear has a short clip that should work well (Item #102161). That same clip works great on the Chokwe and Advocate, which look to have similar clip placement.

The only potential issue I see for a MXG or Lynch, Is how far the clip holes are towards the back of the knife. Depending on which one is used, It may stick off the back of the knife and look funky. Just a thought!

I saw a picture somewhere (maybe Spyderco forums ) of the standard clip that was acid washed. Matched the Swayback nicely.

Looking forward to getting the knife in hand!

The MXG clip I referenced shouldn’t hang over much, if at all. The clip location on the Advocate and Chokwe is pretty close to the clip on the Swayback, and the clip works great on those two. I’ve got a Swayback incoming early next week and will post pics with the MXG clip when it arrives.

From what manufacturer and type, if you don’t mind me asking?

One of the short 3-hole bead-blasted versions sold by Lynch. I am wondering if it will interfere with the lock bar relief cutout though. The long version may be more suitable, but it was sold out when I ordered.

send me the clip, i will grit blast with aluminum oxide, I am an electroplater in the airline business,we always grit blast our parts before plating, we also use a glass bead media but it is too shiny for my taste, we also do a shot peening process that i have not tried on my clips yet. Aluminum oxide will give a matt finish, glass will give a shiny finish

All:

If/when you replace the clip on your Swayback, please post a pic and an impression.

I’m trying to decide what will go on mine. So far, I’m leaning towards the MXG skinny. I’m not entirely convinced though.

That MXG skinny clip is going to hang off the end of the Swayback, so that’s something to consider.

Yup. I think most things deep carry will.
The standard spoon clip is kinda fugly on the Swayback though.
