For a few months I have been looking at this knife, talking about the black model. Yesterday I decided that this would be my first knife of 2014, though I did buy a Leatherman Juice a couple weeks ago but I'm not counting it as a knife.
The only compression lock Spyderco I've ever held in my hand was the ATR titanium model. That may have been the first knife with the compression lock? Anyway, the knife had bladeplay both horizontally and vertically. It must have been around 2000-2001 when I handled it. From some of the reviews I've read it seems like this knife, the Szabo, has very good lockup with no bladeplay evident. The reports also say that the opening is rather tight, and that the self closing mech is also fairly strong/stiff. Well that don't bother me at all as that is how I like my knives to be.
What I'm looking for is some reassurance that I did good!! And I also would like to know if the reports I mention above are accurate. Though not mentioned, I am wondering if the blade is centered when the knife is closed. This is my first Spyderco since early 2012 and I am hoping it will be one that will stay with me and one deserving of my edc lineup.
So if you have one let me know what you think of it.
