so i just nabbed one of these knives up recently, it is still in transit. so what is the consensus? it seems like it should be good. carbon fiber, CPM S30V, magnets. i knew they were blown out a few years ago. so does anybody have any of these and what are you thoughts. thanks guys.

You know I have one of these already and it isn't used, but in hand feels nice, the thumb ramp is a bit steep, but not a big deal. I've heard that the magnets' strength varies from Tmag to Tmag. Some stronger than others. Mine is relatively strong, but think it could be stronger? It's the only spydie I own w/o a locking mechanism.

Let us know when you get yours!

Mine is a factory second (bad carbon fiber according to the sticker it had on it) but it should be functionally the same as any other T-Mag. Both the closed and open detents are very weak, as in flip it open or closed with a minimal wrist flick. As in "That there is a gravity knife, boy. You in a heap o' trouble now." If you don't mind the magnet pulling other stuff out of your pocket, and you don't mind holding the blade open with your index finger in the choil, and you don't mind tip-up carry with a practically non-existent closed detent, I suppose it would be okay, but those things kind of bug me.

lol Guess I would have to agree with all of this. It's funny when I go to pull this knife out of my pocket and my zippo would be paired with it....[when I carried it]

Fun knife minus all that stuff I guess

if it locked it would AMAZING. it's super comfortable and definitely sexy. however the lack of lock is why i traded mine away

If the magnet will be too weak for your taste, just buy 2 of these:

http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=B444-N52

or one of them:

http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=B448

and replace the original magnet. As strong as the T-Mag magnet actually is, there is one major fault, and that is the direction this thing is magnetized: Magnetization Direction is thru Thickness (actually like the B448 linked above), that means the magnet is strongest at the LONG side of it, not the narrow side where it should be, because the blade makes contact there.

The two little cubes should solve that problem. Actually, over at spyderco.com forums, a member exchanged the original with these cubes, and he was thrilled by the result. There is even a pic of the knife AFAIR. You may want to check the thread out.

I like the looks of mine. Mine has one of the weaker magnets, I would guess. To use it you would have to grip the finger choil area of the blade to ensure that the blade wouldn't collapse on you on certain cuts. I think it's a cool collector's piece due to the unique locking mechanism.

I would say that this knife would be at its best as a light-duty gentleman's folder.
